Drivers can be easily downloaded from the Dell web site. You can locate the correct drivers by entering the product name, but even better is to enter the service tag number on the side or bottom of your computer. Sometimes Dell uses different, but functionally identical, components in their products, and using the service tage number ensures you get the correct drivers.

USB ports seldom, fail, but If the problem is hardware-related, replacing the drivers will not help.

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

Dell inspiron n4010 right side usb port not working what is the resolution

Hi,
I also faced the same issue on my dell Inspiron.
The problem is that my USB driver got corrupted somehow and hence my laptop stopped detecting nay USB drive.
I found out that there is a driver that we need to re- install. But then again the problem is
Dell N4010 does not have drivers for Windows 8 :-(
So I needed to install it in compatibility mode.
I made a small article about this issue with snapshots.

This is an external link outside dell forum, I am not sure If I am allowed to do so but I cant write all the steps here:

My dell latitude d600 usb ports stopped working how can i get it fixed. thans

If ALL the usb ports have stopped working, this is a problem with the USB controller. The short answer is that you cannot easily repair this. In all probability, the controller, or a circuit trace to it has blown or shorted. You would need to get another motherboard.

If one is still working, then you can get a PCIMCIA card to usb port that will give you 2-4 extra ports, but this will only work if at east one of your existing usb ports is still functioning

Replace the mouse with a known good working one.
If you are not using a mouse (bad news) the touch pad may be failing.
In that case, an easy test and fix is to disable it in "Control Panel" then install a mouse in the USB Port.

If the problem is corrected then it is your touch pad.

Here is a link to the manual from Dell. FREE!

See Page 42 on disabling the Touch Pad.

Go to EBay and insert "6000 Dell Inspiron touch pad". It's cheap but difficult to replace.

Dell Inspiron 6000 Alps Touchpad not working

Try unistalling the touchpad driver, and reboot. The machine will find the touchpad and reinstall the driver automatically. These have a tenancy to glitch when using an external mouse, and this should clear it up. Let me know.
