Where can you find this part and is it spelled compacitor or compasitor? Are there guidelines on a website for my husband to put a new one in?

Do we need to unplugged the fridge until the part comes? I ordered it and it will not be here until Tuesday. No one had the part locally. What panel on the back do we need to remove, the lower panel at the bottom rear or the entire panel. I have a side by side Frigidaire that I bought in 2003. A appliance repairer told me to call Frigidaire and tell them about the parts going out and they supposed to repair it if the fridge is out 5 years old becasue they are on a lawsuit about their parts. Thanks very much for your help.

We replace the compacitor and when we turn the fridge on the noise came back on. is this normal or do we have another problem on our hands. How do you know when the compressor is out?

There is a relay/overload/compasitor that plugs into the compressor. when this part goes bad the compressor will hum then click. its a pretty common problem with frigidaire but very easy to replace

you can get it at any appliance parts store if you have one locally. just take your model number with you so you get the right one. ask for a relay overload and they will give you the right parts. to replace, pull out the frig and on the back at the bottom youll see a removable cover. take that off. the large black round part is the compressor. on the left side of the compressor is a plastic cover. remove plastic cover and the relay overload is under that with 2 wire conections. its self explanatory from that point. ( sometimes theres no cover over the relay overload youll just see the part with 2 wires)

  • chris hooper Nov 26, 2007

yes. when the compressor cant run nothing can cool.

  • chris hooper Nov 26, 2007

replace the relay overload and it will start running again. i fix this problem to or 3 times a week. like i said its very common

  • chris hooper Nov 26, 2007

the panel on the back at the bottom. yes unpug it until you get the new part on

  • chris hooper Nov 29, 2007

if you replaced everything it should be running. if it still hums and then clicks then the compressor is shorted to ground. if your frig was bought before 11/1/2006 and is less than 5 years old the compressor itself is still under warranty. labor wont be but the part is. there should be a 1800# in your owners manual for warranty service. if its just humming but not clicking off just give a few hours to cool down

you said you replaced the compasitor but did you replace the relay overload? you needed that too. i mentioned it in one of my previous posts

My kenmore 253 upright freezer/fridge is not cooling the fridge part correctly. It's cool but not cool enough to keep the food fresh. The freezer works well sometimes. And sometimes it seems that it's not...

Try this test. Set a window fan behind the fridge to constantly blow air across the lower coils at the floor. If the fridge works well after a while of this, then the lower fan on the fridge needs replaced. Sometimes though, after a while, the fan will finally start working again because the cycle has finally corrected itself with the test. Leave the window fan run on low for a few days before removing it. The hum you hear is the compressor moving the coolant and is supposed to do the hum sound. That's good. Now once the fridge is working, and you still have a good freezer section and not cool enough below in the fridge for you, there is a knob that sets the cool lower by opening flaps under the freezer to let more cold down to the fridge area. Set this knob to colder and the flaps will open more.

GE profile fridge making loud humming noise

The door being open so long caused warm moist air to collect and freeze inside the unit.

Take everything out, unplug it and let it thaw out for an entire day. All the frost will thaw, and probably run water all over the place so put towels down.

When you plug it back it, it should work fine.

Why would a brand new fridge make strange noises already?

Good Afternoon Friend,

I understand that your Frigidaire refrigerator, model# FFSS2614QS, is making a strange humming noise. Your new, high-efficiency refrigerator may introduce unfamiliar sounds. These sounds normally indicate your refrigerator is operating correctly. Some surfaces on floors, walls, and kitchen cabinets may make these sounds more noticeable. This could possibly be the compressor that you are hearing. Modern, high-efficiency compressors run much faster than in the past. The compressor may have a high-pitched hum or pulsating sound. Hope this is helpful.

-Best Regards-

Frigidaire side by side freezer - LOUD noise...

It sounds like the evaporator fan is hitting ice that is built up on the evaporator coil. When it's making the noise, open the freezer door and see if it stops.
(Most models are wired so that the evaporator fan cuts off when the freezer door is open.)
Check the inside back, lower panel of the freezer for ice built up or frost on it. If there is, you have a defrost problem that is most likley a bad heater. It's located around the coil inside the freezer behind the panel you will be looking at. The defrost problem would explain the freezer not freezing ice cream.

The fridge side by side door. Freezer & fridge stop working I can hear the motor trying to go but doesn't cool

When you say motor I assume compressor. No start compressors can be an electrical component like the start relay or the compressor itself. Eric

Frigidaire FRS23H5AS refrigerator - freezer not cold

Humming noise would be your compressor going bad. The noise from the fan is because they are over working to try and keep everything cool

Fridge and freezer not cold

It happenedn to my performa fridge just yesterday. It was bought in 2005. Now there is humming and clicking sound from the lower back side once in a while and the fridge is not cold. the compressor is hot/warm and it seems to be where the noise is coming from.
