Question about KitchenAid Refrigerators

1 Answer

Replaced water filter in Kitchenaid side-by-side. When new filter was in place there was a knocking sound from the bottom of the refrigerator that lasted about 1 minute, then it stopped. The new filter works OK.

Can't tell if it's making ice but it has been making ice OK and is dispensing cold water OK.

I've had the refrigerator since December 2004 (it's a KSBS25INSS) and never had this problem before. Changing filters was always a relatively simple process and this the first time there has been knocking.

There was a tiny bit of spillage but not that much. After the first time I did this I thought the new filter might be defective so I re-inserted the old filter. There was no knocking. Then I removed the old filter an inserted a different new filter. There was knocking again. The knocking does stop, but it is quite lock and "scary" :)

Solution was very helpful. Thank you. It's always disconcerting to hear a noise you never heard before!

Most likely just getting air out of the water line. If you are already making ice then nothing to worry about. If not, run the water dispenser until water starts coming out steady and you should have it pretty well ready to go.

Did you lose more water this time that others by any chance? If the water line slips out of your hand and water ends up on the floor then it's real easy to get air in the line.

It's not surprising that you would get the knocking again with another new filter as it will again be filled with air. The odd thing is that you didn't get any noise in the past when doing this. It's pretty normal to get noise when doing this. You can turn the water back on slowly and minimize it if it really bothers you.

What is the model number for the water filter for the KitchenAid #KSRG25FKSS16 refrigeator and where is it found in the refrigerator? thank you.

Hello pssutherland,

I understand that you need to locate the water filter on your KitchenAid fridge. The water filter is located at the bottom of the fridge in the grill. There is a eject button that you will need to press next to the water filter in order to get it to release.
1. Press the eject button
2. pull the filter straight out
3. Remove the cap by turning it clockwise (you will need to install this on the new one)
4. Reinstall the cap on the new filter
5. Push the filter in until the eject button pops back out.
6. Purge the system run three full glass of water thru the water dispencer and throw away.
7. You are done

Thank you for choosing FixYa.com

We purchased a new KitchenAid Side by Side Refrigerator Model # KSRG25FVBL01 that makes a loud knocking noise accompanied by rattling from the date we purchsed. We are getting runaround in getting it fixed...

The knocking noises heard from the Freon moving through the sealed system are perfectly normal and usually do not last long. Since the evaporator coil is mounted in the freezer section, the noise is usually louder there. Some people say it sounds like marbles knocking together.
Refrigerant (Freon) moving through the system can cause a vibration/rattling, especially as the compressor first starts up.
  1. Vibrating from top of cabinet Remove, rearrange or pad any stored items atop the refrigerator such as houseplants, coins, pens, etc.
  2. Vibrating from back or sides of refrigerator Move refrigerator away from water line in the rear or away from walls / cabinets along the side of the cabinet. Refrigerators with a static condenser on the back require a rear clearance of 3 inches across the top of the condenser.
  3. Vibrating from the bottom of refrigerator Level refrigerator so all 4 rollers / feet rest solidly on the floor.
    Hope this works.....

Where is the water filter located on a kitchenaid ksrp25qdwh00

This particular water filter is known as a ``in line water filter`` and is located at the BOTTOM of the fridge at the LEFT hand side. located in the grill at the bottom. first you must remove the filter cap and then It simply twists out for easy replacement. part number for the water filter is 2255519. and should be replaced based on a 6 month period or the amount of water filtered. hope this helps

Thanks

Ice maker not working/ water leaking from bottom

turned out the filter had a leak. So first shut of the water valve that made the connection to the fridge then twisted the filter counter clockwise and replaced it with a new filter.
