My unit works perfect during cooling but I can not get it to heat, I changed the thermostat and the same results, it blows cool only.

Re: goodman ac / heat pump

Goodman energizes it reversing valve in the cooling mode. Usually in the "o" circuit of the thermostat wiring. You may have that wired hot somehow.

Re: goodman ac / heat pump

I just had a new unit installed and I am surfing for troubleshooting tips too. My unit is doing the same... cools well heat sucks. my problem has been isolated down to the reversing valve... It is constantly energised which means it is constantly in a/c mode even when kicking on the heat strips... We disconnected a line at the thermostat and it is working well as a heater now. You may want to check yours to see if it is actually kicking over into to heat mode... -rob

Unit not working correctly. The unit worked for the winter, few days ago I turn on the AC and noticed that it wasn't cooling like it should.

It's could be the board or a heat relay. See if you have 24 volts on "x2" im assuming, emergency heat when in cool mode if so it's the board. Or unhook black or x2 or your emergency heat from board and run unit in cool. If heat stays on its a relay

We gave a Goodmn Hertz 60 Phase I heat pump - installed this summer....worked great for that temps are dropping we are needing heat. When we turn it on it comes on but never heats. Think it...

If you changed the unit but didn't change the thermostat it is possible that the thermostat that you have will not work with that unit. I see that the unit you installed is a heat pump, you may have a straight cool T-Stat. If you put the T-Stat in the "Auto" "Heat" mode the outdoor fan and the compressor should be workng as well as the blower fan. If it turns out that the outdoor fan and compressor are not running you will want to buy a Thernostat that is compatable with heatpumps should be 2 heat/ 1 cool

I am getting hot air instead of cool air from my heat pump when it is in the cooling mode.

The problem is in the thermostat wiring. Y1 on an air conditioner, brings on the cooling. On a heat pump, it brings on the compressor, which generally fails to heat mode. The O wire operates the reversing valve, which brings on cooling. If these wires are reversed, or not hooked up, you will not get cooling.

Why would cool air be blowing out of my central ac unit condensor that sits outside? The other unit I have next to it blows out warm air and responds well to thermostat changes. The unit blowing cool air...

It probably has a low refrigerant charge. The air coming out of the outside unit should be warmer than the outdoor temperature when in the cooling mode and if it's a heat pump it should be colder than the outdoor temperature in the the heating mode. Check the big line going to the unit, it should be somewhere around the 40 F range and the small line should be hot.

My Home Ac Unit Is Not Blowing Any Air

This sounds like the fan not turning during cool. You will have to check the fan relay for power during the cool cycle. The fan relay is run by the low voltage side, but still there is hi voltage present. When in heat the power goes thru the relay on one set of points then in cool goes thru the opposite side. You should have a digram present, and then on the main circuit board there is a code light. Check the light for blinking or (flash) read the bottom of the board for the code ( very small print)

Goodman AC Unit with Heat Pump - Works great cooling when switched to heat the outside unit does not come on - inside comes on and uses emergency heat? What can I check? I first checked the contactor and...

Because the outdoor unit works in cooling, it sounds as though the contactor and other components outside are working correctly. The problem sounds as though it might be somewhere in your thermostat. Has the thermostat been replaced recently? If so, make sure it was wired correctly. If not, check all of the connections and contact points in your thermostat. In order for your outdoor unit to run, you must have 24vac at your "C" Common and "Y" connections. You must have this in COOL mode. Now it has to be determined why you don't have it in HEAT mode. Definitely a thermostat issue.

Hope this helps and good luck! :-)

Can somebody help, why is my Central AC blows

Most heat pumps have an auxillary heat. Many are electric auxillary heat with a heat strip in the air handler. A common malfunction is for the electric auxillary heat to operate when the heat pump is set on cool. To confirm this, locate the conductor that runs from the heat sequencer to the connection on the heat strip. You will see this on the top section of the air handler. Use the clamp on part of the amp meter over that wire. If the thermostat is set on cool and the heat strip is drawing amps, it means the heat is coming on while the heat pump is set on cool. There is usually one or two causes for this, either the sequencer is bad or there is low voltage wires usually behind the thermostat or in the air handler closet that are touching that shouldn't be touching.

If this is not the case, if its not a problem of where the heat is coming on with the air conditioner, it could be a case of the reversing valve malfunctioning. The way a heat pump works is it reverses the flow of the refridgerant. For instance, many heat pumps the reversing valve is activated in cool. That would mean that there is a low voltage circuit that activates the reversing valve when the heat pump is in cool. I'm not sure what model/brand your heat pump is, Goodman and Janitrol for instance, the heat pump reversing valve is activated in cool. In any case, if the reversing valve is not operating properly, when the air conditioning is set to cool it will actually be heating. Or you could set it to heat and it may actually be cooling instead of heating. Please check these two items first and if you have any further questions, please let me know. Especially if you know of any additional problems like the evaporater is icing up or if the air handler fan is not operating when it should.

Goodman with 2 thermostats, freezes in summer, no heat in winter

is the system zoned? if so maybe the zoning control board to the damper motor is wired improperly. when a system freezez its because of 1- restricted air flow across coil, (maybe dirty filter) or 2-low refrigerant charge. again could depend on how its zoned.

Goodman PHJK048 Heat Pump Package

ok...where to ....the thermostat is just a switch. It will tell the unit to run or not run.if you measure the temp with the heatpump running, the air is warmer than 68 but it feels cool to you because your body is 98.6.The unit will run more often and for longer periods when the temperature drops outside for a few reasons.First, your house has more of a load to heat, meaning you have more heat loss because of the difference in temperatures outside and inside.Second, your heat pump pulls heat from the outside air.The colder the air outside, the less btu's for it to pull.If you have anymore questions Hope this helps,Dave

Carrier thermostat

I hate to say it but Ive had trouble with Carrier's Tstats doing similar improper things. Unfortunatly the only repair is going to be replacement of the whole tstat. I recommend Honeywell's FocusPRO or VisionPRO tstat. Ive yet to have one fail and they have a 5yr warranty if they ever do.
