I have a Kenmore elite oasis top loader. The tub bearing caused the noise level to get increasingly higher over a period of a few weeks. Finally it sounded like an airplane taking off. I thought about trying to fix it myself. Meanwhile I talked to the Sears representative and they offered me a one year warranty ( my old warranty ran out last year and I did not renew). The cost was about $135.00. However, I talked to a relative who works in the factory and he thought that was a good deal. I called the repairman and am glad I did. The bearing was stuck so badly that he had to remove outer tub and finally replace with a new one. Two men came the next day and installed the new tub and associated bearing. I saved a lot of money and the washer sings quietly now. So, before you get in over your head, you might want to see if there is an available warranty. Otherwise, get ready for a fight getting the bearing out from under the washer.
Bearing Replacement (Part 1 of 3)
This advice is for replacing the rear wash tub shell of most
Kenmore Elite HE model FRONT
LOADERS, along with Whirlpool Duet, and some Frigidaire FRONT
LOADER models. This is a repair that
would be rated as difficult due to the extensive disassembly and
reassembly of components.
The requirement to replace the rear wash tub shell is
usually attributed to the rear tub bearing failure in which the bearings are
molded into the tub and cannot be replaced otherwise. In some situations the replacement of the
inner spinner basket (stainless steel tub) may also be required due to the
corrosion and breakage of the spider arms in the back of the basket that
support the basket.
SYMPTOMS:Washer exhibits excessively loud “rumbling” type noise during the spin
cycle, excessively vibrates, or won’t spin at all.
DETERMINING IF THE BEARING AND SPIN BASKET ARE BAD:
With the washer door open, place your hand inside the basket and push straight
up.If there is excessive play in the
tub (wobbles up and down) the bearing is probably bad.If the spinner basket scrapes against the
outer tub shell when you give it a spin, you will have to replace the inner
spin basket as well. Unfortunately, you cannot see the condition of spinner
basket supports until it is removed from the outer tub shells. In some cases, a brownish colored stain

Before starting this repair, make sure you read through all
instructions thoroughly and place the washer is in an area that gives you
plenty of space to work.
Is the plastic housing (Outer Tub) in good shape? If the old boot was ripped, It might be the spider is also broken. Can you move the inner tub by hand and see if it lifts upward? If so you might have to get a new one. I had the spider bracket in the rear of the inner tub break in 4 pieces and too expensive to weld. So I bought a new top loader.
its the drum bearings that support the inner drum, you need to replace these bearings, the problem with this is it was manufactured by frigidaire for kenmore and you cant just buy the inner bearing and lip seal as it comes with the outer rear half of the outer.tub where as with maytag neptune or whirlpool duet you can drive these bearin gs out and re-use the tub half, but you can't buy just the bearings and seal for a frigidaire front loader
This problem is usually caused by unbalanced loads or damaged balancing springs. This solution might help you out;Rearrange the clothes inside and turn it back on. If the problem persists , Its means it's the inner tub bearing that is causing the problem,it is going bad and will continue to do so. The solution is to replace the whole inner tub in order to get a new bearing or you could press it out and find the part number to replace it with. Thanks and take care
Had noise during spin cycle called for repair $79 dollors later its tub assembly its clamp on the back of drum cost $1000 dollors to repair so if you have 747 during spin cycle buy yourself a new machine.
You have a bad rear bearing. Its a very expensive repair most units you have to buy the back half of the tub to get the bearing. Low end for the repair would be around $400. Sorry to break the bad news hope this helps. _MJ_
