SOURCE: how to remove chuck from drill press

I just looked at a breakdown for this tool and it is not that clear. But to get an owners manual you can go to Searspartsdirect.com and type in your model number and look at the same schematici I did and also order a manual for about 7.50. Usually though on a drill press like that it would be a morse taper. Do you see a slot cut thru the spindle on both sides, if so there should be a tapered key that came with the unit. In that case what you would need to do it put the key in the slot and tap it with a hammer to remove the adaptor and chuck. Let me know if I can help further

SOURCE: Need a take up spring for old craftsman drill

Hello. Craftsman only stocks parts for their tools for a ten year period. If you want to look and see just go to searsparts.com.
Your best bet may be to take your worn spring to a hardware store and match it up with one that they have in stock.

SOURCE: Drill Presses - Need manuals for Rockwell 15-350. I found exploded parts diagrams. But not manuals.

Excluding industrial units, drill presses are very similar to each other and most of the low and medium price units are generic tools of far eastern origin so any simple set of instructions for any drill press will apply to most machines.

Mostly the drill press is an intuitive tool to use for anyone who has the slightest engineering experience so most manuals seem to be almost filled with safety information rather than any useful information. The useful stuff should be gleaned from more comprehensive manuals about engineering and workshop practice.

How to fix a out of round drill press chuck (ToolKraft 350B

The chuck could be threaded like an average power drill.

Respectable drill presses use a hollow quill shaft that is likely to be machined into a taper that is likely to be number 1, 2 or 3 Morse taper.

Morse taper drill bits are used a lot - the shank is tapered and will grip and drive when inserted into the quill with just a small force. When the bit is to be removed the quill is turned by hand until a slot in the quill lines up with a slot in the housing and a wedge-shaped steel tool is slid in and tapped breaking the taper fit.

Most such drill presses are supplied with a chuck for light duty drilling already mounted. The chuck is often a Jacobs type mounting by means of a Jacobs taper onto a Morse taper adaptor.
The adaptor is tapered at both ends - at the lower end the taper is steep and the chuck must be pressed on with some force. The upper end will have the same gentle taper of the Morse taper drill bits and is removed in the same way.

Using the chuck drilling is limited to the capacity of the chuck, typically 1/2" or 5/8" unless blacksmith's drill bits are used that have stepped shanks.
Morse taper drill bits will allow heavy duty drilling far in excess of the chuck capacity.

Hopefully your problem is caused by the chuck rather than a bent quill.

Need an owners instruction manual for an old, Remington Tools drill press, Model R-17-15

I have what I believe is the same press and have not been able to find anything at all on the manufacturer. However, you will find that it is nearly identical to every other chinese manufacture press in it's class. This manual should be pretty close to yours minus the oscillating features.

The chuck on my craftsman 8" drill press wobbles. How can I stop it from wobbling?? Can I get a manual for my drill. thanks. [email protected]

There are a couple of different ways that drill chucks are attached on smaller tools. You didn't specify the model, so I can't help much. But here is a link to where you can usually find manuals for Craftsman. If the press is not too old, you will probably be able to find the manual here.
