Question about Maytag Washing Machines
I had service two months ago on my washer becuase it was vibrating/shaking volently during the spin cycle. The tech found the snubbers dry causing the drum to be tight. He lubricated snubber as best as poissible and leveledlegs. In my reading, I have learned snubbers should not be lubricated, but should use cornstarch??? The floor is weak - it flexes. It is plywood under a no-wax type floor.
He returned last week and now says the break bearings needs replacing - he tells me the brake bearing sits on top of the transmission. If I chose to replace this, i should also replace the snubber assembly. Price...$450.00!
My question - does this sound like the right diagnosis?? I hate to call another tech in and have to pay the 90.00 for him to walk in the door and get a second opinion. Is it likely this tech is right considering the age of the machine? He said if I can live with the rattling noise during the spin cycle,it won't hurt the machine and to just replace it when it dies.
This machine is only six years old, it is the Maytag Dependable Care Quiet Plus. I am very disappointed on the number of service calls on this machine over the years. I chose Maytag for the life expectancy - figuring at least ten years. Maybe that is too optimistic these days.
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

its either the upper spin bearing or lower spin bearing. the upper can be replaced by itself but the lower requires the transmission the be replaced

SOURCE: we are installing the snubber
iT TURNED OUT WE HAD NOT BEEN INFORMED ABOUT THE TILTING OF THE MACHINE WHEN IT WENT OUT OF BALANCE. WE ACTUALLY DIND'T NEED TO CHANGE THE SNUBBER. IT WAS SHOWING SOME SIGNS OF WEAR, SO MY HUSBAND DID CHANGE IT, AND WE NEVER DID FIGURE WHERE THE DIMPLES ARE, BUT THE MACHINE IS WORKING LIKE NEW FOR A MINIMAL COST TO US.

SOURCE: rattling noise during spin cycle
from a washing machine occur during the spin cycle. If you hear loud
thumping during the spin, the load of clothes may have become
unbalanced. Stop the washer and redistribute the clothes, then re-start
it. Repeat these steps if necessary.

very loud in spin cycle can mean a bad rear bearing, not something a homeowner would want to try to replace, parts would exceed 6-7 hundered dollars. you may have some extended part warr through the manufacture. still probly gonna be a 5 hundred when the labor is added in

Check the shocks on the bottom of the drum. I had the same problem and had to replace the shocks because they were broken in half.
