Question about Acer Aspire™ T180 PC Desktop
Has anyone used acer BIOS update vR01-B1 for the issue I asked about previously? The issue I refer to is the pc does not boot with all 4 RAM slots filled. It boot and runs great with any 3 slots occupied with any RAM configuration. Has DDR2-5300 (667) RAM. New RAM is same speed, 1gb X 2 modules. Memtest confirms modules are all good. Came with pc2-5300 512mb x 2, trying to add 2 x 1gb pc2-5300 to the mix. Total 3gb. System specs say it supports 4gb total RAM.
Thanks for any assistance.
I had same problem with mine, i have the acer aspire ast180-ud360a, dont put the same memory next to each other, u have to stagger it, so it looks like
------------> [1gb] [512mb] [1gb] [512mb] <--- correct setup
and not like
------------> [1gb][1gb][512mb][512mb] <--- incorrect setup

Need to install stagerd 1g 512 1g 512 in that order your will see 3gb how ever as soon as you get over one gig vista will use a full gig

Alternating (staggering as per above suggestion) the 1GB and 0.5GB modules worked for me. However, it did not work with 4 Kingston KVR 800mb 1GB modules (2 2G kits)..

I have the same problem most of you do I am pretty sure it is the bios verson R0-B1. Acer says its the upgrade for the T180 but if you look at the description on the site it says its for XP. There is no place in advanced chip set in is bios version to change from single to dual this is also why I believe it is a XP bios version. I had no ram issues until I installed VR0-B1 now I can only use two ram slots adding any more in any configuration and my OS will not boot. Good luck getting any help from Acer. I am pretty sure that if I can just get a copy of the original Bios (which by the way is like finding a needle in a hay stack, no one seems to know) my system would recognize the other slots, but alas cant get any help. It looks like I am stuck with 2 gigs 1gig X2. I might try to put two 2 gig sticks in and see if I can get the 4 even though it will not work as well as four 1 gig sticks would. If anyone know the original bios version please let me know my system is the T180 4400+ dual core amd athlon .
