SOURCE: Hydrostatic mower goes in reverse but not forward. Only 73 hrs on it!

On my hydrostatic there is an adjustment on the forward/back lever which can be made to run all reverse or all forward. Normal setting gives both of course. Look at that adjustment. Maybe something let go.

SOURCE: front wheels lock up when pull mower backwards

Typically self-propelled mowers are propelled using the front wheels, which only turn forward. Pulling the mower back while the front wheels are turning will damage the drive gears. It's best to raise the front wheels slightly off the ground before pulling back.

SOURCE: The rear wheels will not turn in reverse at all. I

Rear wheel drives like this have pinion gears with rachet pawls that allow them to go backwards freely while locking when the transmission drives them.

You need to take off your rear wheels and carefully remove the pawls. They look like little squareish metal shaft keys with springs under them. You should notice that the keys or pawls are covered in what looks like grease.....which is actually worm metal from the pinion gear and oil mixed together to form this pastey greasey substance. Clean all that stuff off and lightly oil *( light oil...3 in 1 kind of oil) and reassemble.

You should hear the nice clean clicking of the rachet pawls as you roll backwards again!

Good luck and be careful!

SOURCE: 98 vw beetle wont go in reverse

I have a 1998 and I just confronted the same problem. It seems to take like 1 gear in reserve and like 2 gear in 1 gear. Any thoughts? I don't really it should be the transmission since it still works going forward in 2 different gears. Thanks.

On this mower every time it goes backwards even a half inch it shuts the blades off. How do I disconnect the wires or switch so that if I back up the blades stay ingauged.

Need Make/Model/Year/Engine Model/Deck Size, and hours on meter if you have one.

All riding mowers do that now (thanks to nanny .gov). There is a switch on the axle which is activated when you go backwards. This switch can be pulled from it's holder. Then you simply wire tire the switch out of the way. After that when you reverse the machine it will not know you are reversing.

OF COURSE, do not try this at home. Bypassing this switch is not recommended.

My Weedeater riding lawn mower will not move when it is in drive or reverse

Check your drive belt that it has not slipped off the drive cog under the motor. Also check the alignment of the motor with the handle on the right side (speed, reverse, and neutral lever).. This lever tilts the engine to engage the drive belt.. there is no transmission in this machine.. just how the belt engages by its angle when you push the lever forward and backward.. If the engine is running, it must be either the belt to drive the unit or the angle has been messed up somehow..

Go in reverse

The steering levers control all movement on a zero-turn mower. Just slowly pull both handles back evenly and you'll go backwards in a straight line. The farther you pull back the levers the faster it goes backwards.

Lawnmower wont move in fwd or reverse

Is the brake sticking. On my craftsman mower there is a bar under the brake pedal that pushes back a lever when starting. And the lever sticks. I have to reach underneath and pull the lever forward and then the mower goes. I haven't found a solution to that yet.

Drive doesn't disconnect when pulling the mower backwards...

Try letting go of the self-propelled lever a couple of feet prior to stopping, then try pulling back. Also, I had a Lawnboy that did this. There was a flap on the back of the mower that would curl up under the deck and actually push the transmission into gear when I pulled it backwards.
