Question about Haier HD451E Dehumidifier

1 Answer

(New Unit) Motor Runs, Does Not Extract Moisture

Just unpackaged a Haier HD451-T (not the 451E that was closest in your dropdown menu). The moisture control knobs and fan appear to work normally, the little lever is touching the round pad on the collection bucket, but it does not extract ANY water from the air, not one drop!

Try setting you temperature or fan speed lower this may help.
In order for the unit to remove moisture the coil has to be below the dewpoint.

It runs, but why doesn't it extract water?

The compressor has to run to extract moisture. You may be hearing just the fan running.

My dehumidifer is not drawing any water, but the fan continues to run.

There are several reasons this may be happening. The 2 primary reasons are the humidity extraction level is set to high. Lower it to 35% . The lower the setting, the more moisture/humidity is extracted from the air. The higher the setting, the less if any moisture. humidity will be extracted from the air.
On most humidifiers the fan runs almost constantly while in operation. The idea is to continually move the air around and when the unit senses a rise in humidity, above what you have it set on, the compressor will turn ON to extract that humidity.

The 2nd thing that causes the problem is a dirty of clogged intake air filter. Which is easily solved by removing and cleaning the filter. Which should be done at least every 2 weeks, while the dehumidifier is in operation.

I said there were 2 reasons. Actually, there is a 3rd. Not enough clear air space all around the dehumidifier. A minimum of 12" should be maintained during operation.

Hope this helped you to troubleshoot and solve the problem. Please let me know. Thanks.

The dehumidifier isn't taking the moisture out of the air.

is the compressor in the unit hot to the touch,or are the coils freezing and thawing when it runs<if so you probably need to add some R-134a refrigerant, these type of units are notorious for losing all or part of their refrigerant charge, but unless you have the equipment to remove old refrigerant and vacuum the system down and recharge it it can get costly

Unit runs but does not extract water.

Assuming there is moisture in the air, it could be several things. Be sure the unit is clean and the compressor is running. The outlet line from the compressor should be warm and the return cold. If they are not and the compressor is operating you either have lost refrigerant or the compressor has failed.
Good Luck,
