I just moved into an apartment and where the water drains, that cover needs to be replaced as well.
We cannot diagnose your Whirlpool washing machine on the internet, but here is some help for you.
1) Type your correct model number into the web-site "SearsPartsDirect" and you will get schematics for your machine, as well as part numbers, and the ability to order the parts you need.
2) Your correct model number is du850swpB3.
3) That web-site has a phone number with a technician who might help; you by answering questions for you.
God bless your efforts.

it is highly recomended that you use powder detergent only absolutley no blocks or tabs or gels

A wax motor controls the opening of the lid. Also a seal that fits around the latch lever may be deteriorating and obstructing the function of the lever. Follow the link below for images and part numbers with cost.

Turn the settings dial (you know, the thing you turn to start or go to rinse, etc.) until you hear a click. It is probably at the point where the door opens during the cycle. That happened to me too. Turning it back to start before trying to close th door worked.
SOURCE: Rinsing detergent from dispenser
Use gel run a few cycles and help clear and then don't overfill w gel soap
SOURCE: Soap dispenser cover won't close
It sounds like it may be stuck between cycle steps.(this sometimes happens if the washer is open during a cycle)Try and run it through one full wash cycle as it is.Then check to see if the soap door will close. If not,the lack may be broken
Hey friend, thank you for the post!
I understand that your soap dispenser door will not open on your Frigidaire dishwasher, LGBD2432LW0A. You could possibly be seeing an issue with soap dispenser not getting water into it to release the soap from dispensing. I would check to make sure there are no dishes blocking or obstructing the soap dispenser. You could also remove the soap dispenser to clean it and make sure there is no buildup of any previous detergent remaining that would cause the door to not open. If those steps do not solve the issue it could be a problem with the dispenser and I would recommend having a tech come out to the home to properly diagnose and repair the dishwasher. Hope this is helpful. -Matt
