A volt meter will not help you much, unless you know what the relavent resistance values should be for the motor windings..
If the brushes seem to be o/k, and the motor ioes not work at all ,then I would suggest that the prob is not with your motor, but with the control board or timer unit, if the motor tries to go is erratic, then the motor is probably faulty.
Please rate my solution.
Thanks.

IF you don't have a special meter, that costs more than the capacitor, just replace it. The meter is called an ESR meter and they are $$

99 Kawi zx 900c won't crank or start, I've been told that it's either the stator or rectifier, how can I test these parts to be sure

The stator and rectifier are parts of the charging circuit, don't control motor operation. An ohm test will check a stator, you need specs to know what it should be. A rectifier changes ac to dc (I think) and has it's own test, which I forget.
Cranking and starting are battery and ignition and fuel things.

Passenger side window on 2004 free star, quit working

take the inner door panel off, then jumper 12 volts to the motor connection, ( the one leading to the motor once disconnected ) to see if the motor even still works, if you hook the wires up backwards, no problem, Just reverse them to make it travel the other direction. if you find that the motor to the window works, back track to the switch, make sure its getting power with a meter or 12 volts test light, if it is,, push the switch to make sure its crossing through the switch supplying 12 volts to both sides, ( these switches are a normal pass through 12 volt switch, the only difference is the last 2 wires leading to the door side, flip flop, which makes the window go up or down) if you have voltage to and through the switch,, your window should work, ( assuming the motor checked out ok ) if wither of these 2 things doesn't check out good, replace them,, ( motor or switch) if you find that the switch isn't getting power, trace it back towards the drivers side switches,, and check the window switch lock, if thats shorted none of the other windows will work, and it would need to be replaced,

1991 harley fxstc starter was just clicking once and found ground on battery loose. also the post on the battery melted a little. now the starter will make a ratcheting sound but wont start the bike

You probably have a bad battery. The tell tale is the melted post. The starter is basically a DC motor. In this case,it is designed to run on 12 volts. If your battery has a shorted cell in it making the voltage drop to 10 volts, the starter motor still tries to turn the engine by drawing more current. It draws an extreme amount of current that overheats the battery cable and the battery post. Take your battery out and take somewhere that can "load test" the battery. Connect a volt meter across the battery and push the start button and see what the voltage does. If it falls below 10 volts, the battery is kaput.

I have 2002 infinity I35 and the blower motor stop working ,I took out the blower motor to make sure was good. YES the blower motor still working .the only think I really don't know how to check is Blower...

WELL YOU HAVE TO USE A VOLT METER CONNECT ONE VOLT METER WIRES TO GOOD GROUND AND THE OTHER VOLT METER WIRES GOES TO EACH SWITCH SPEED.IF VOLT METER GET VOLTAGE A 1 OR 2 CONTROL SPEED RESISTOR BAD.IF RESISTOR BAD YOU WILL GET 1 OR 2 BLOWER MOTOR SPEEDS.IF BLOWER MOTOR WORKING.CHECK THE AC AND HEATER CONTROL SWITCH FUSE OR CHECK BLOWER MOTOR FUSE AND RELAY.IF ALL GOOD SO FAR CONTROL SWITCH ITSELF COULD BE FAULTY.

When starting, all lights are on,tail light is dim, when i push the start button i only hear a buzzing low sound.

Sounds like a dead battery to me. To make certain, use a volt meter and connect it across your battery, red lead to positive, black lead to negative. Press the starter button, if he voltage drops below 10 volts, your battery is kaput.

Or, if you don't have a volt meter, take the battery to an automotive parts store and ask them to load test it for you. They'll usually do this at no charge.

I have Ariens Model # 1336DLE snow blower aprox 5 yrs

A volt meter or test light will be needed. Also a 12 volt battery supply ( you can use an automobile battery or your automobile)

*Please Note: before testing, make sure all wires and connections are tight and not corroded, loose, or burnt. Many electrical problems are just loose, broken, or burnt wire connections.

Test the chute rotator motor: you will need to disconnect the motor from the wiring harness.
1) connect a wire to the 12 volt supply and one of the motor leads
connect the other wire to the remaining lead
*note: positive or negative does not matter, because the chute motor will rotate either direction, and by reversing leads, the motor direction will reverse.

2) If the motor is good, now check for voltage from the snowblower engine.
Locate the supply wire to the rotator switch, with the engine running, check the voltage reading on that supply wire.

3) If the supply is good, then the switch is bad

hello get a mulitmeter set dc volts on the meter red probe on positive black probe on negative do this on the capacitor beware these caps give off high voltage do not short together it will blow it when you test motor set the meter to ac volts should be about 240 volts on the motor all the best

hi ,this might help.i think your voltage regulator might be kaput or your generator,,13.8v is the static charge of a 12v battery, with the bike running at about 3000rpm you should be getting between 14.2 and 14.8v,the way to test your voltage regulator is to put a meter across the battery with the bike running and switch your lights on the meter should dip momentarily then return to its normal reading if it is not reading at least 14.2v with the lights on the regulator is faulty,,hope this helps

Our 1986 top load Maytag washing machine will not start the cycle. When we turn on the dial, no water comes out. There's no sound to indicate that any power is reaching the machine. We checked the power...

if you have a volt meter, you can test the valve inside the machine to see if there is power getting to the valve. If you listen very carefully to the back of the machine when it turns on, you might be able to hear a slight "buzz" coming from where the hoses plug in. If you hear a buzz, then the valve has gone bad, and needs replacement. If you don't hear anything, it might still be the valve, but you will have to test it with a meter to make sure.

If the valve proves to be fine, then chances are the dial timer has gone kaput.
