Need a new hard drive but have no windows vista disk

You don't.
Do you have backup software? If so, do a "disk and partition" backup. This essentially creates an image of your system, even if you have multiple hard disks. Decent backup software (I won't mention any brands except the one I use: Acronis) will allow for a boot time recovery of your entire system, either by inserting a post-bios command -- which will appear on your screen before windows startup with a message like "Press F12 for system recovery", or you should press whatever key your system allows for boot order and boot from the recovery disk you can create from the software.
You can even now immediately create a Windows backup to an appropriately sized USB mounted disk (even the terabyte ones are relatively cheap) and a Windows Recovery Disk...the recovery disk should be inserted and use boot order F-key...good luck

Try this:

Restore Point:

Try tapping F8 at startup, and from the list of startup selections, select Safe Mode by using UP Arrow Key to go there > then hit Enter.

Try a System Restore once there, to pick a Restore Point before your problem..

Click Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore > pick a different time > Next > etc

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If Restore does not work and you do not have a Microsoft Vista DVD, make a Bootable Repair Disk to do a Startup Repair:
Download the ISO file at the supplied link, and make a Bootable Startup Repair Disk from it.
Go into your Bios/Setup, or Boot Menu, at startup, and change the Boot Order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the Boot Order, then reboot with the disk in the Drive.
At startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, to go into Bios/Setup, or F12 for the Boot Menu.
When you have changed that, insert that Bootable Disk you have made in the Drive, and reboot.
Above link shows what the process looks like, and a how-to, as it loads to the Repair Options.
Neosmart contains the contents of the Windows Vista DVD\'s "recovery center," as we\'ve come to refer to it. It cannot be used to install or reinstall Windows Vista, and just serves as a Windows PE interface to recovering your PC. Technically, one could re-create this installation media with freely-downloadable media from Microsoft (namely the Microsoft WAIK kit, a multi-gigabyte download); but it\'s decent of Microsoft to make this available to Windows\' users who might not be capable of creating such a thing on their own.
Read all info at the website about creating and using it:
http://neosmart.net/blog/2008/windows-vista-recovery-disc-download/
ISO Burner: http://www.snapfiles.com/get/active-isoburner.html
It makes a very good Vista Startup Repair Disk.
You can do a Startup Repair, System Restore, etc from it.
Note: It is not a reinstall disc.
When turn computer on it say boot manager is missing
Hi!
To fix "boot manager is missing" you will need an operating system disc. If you have one you have an option to repair the missing or corrupted file using the disc or you can also reinstall the operating system of your computer. What operating system are you using? Please let me know what operating system are you using to provide you a process of the repair or installation.
Thanks!
I cant log in to my computer Windows Vista (due to a failed system restore). Now when I go to the login it has a blank user named "other user". That happens in safemode, repair system, and...
You need to access the BIOS - press F1 or F2 (depending on the version)during the start of the desktop - and in there you must modify the boot order: put the cd first then the had disk second. Save the change, reboot, insert the Vista disk and reboot once more - the disk will be loaded.
How come when i bought my computer,from walmarts,that i did not get a startup disk with it.it is a acer.
Few computer manufacturers still give recovery disks when you purchase a new PC. Instead they usually either create a 'recovery partition' on the hard drive or allow you to order them online. You can check with Acer here, (I'd need the exact model # to give you more info), or if you're are using Windows 7 go to Control Panel>Backup and Restore and click on 'Create a system repair disk' on the left-side menu. Just follow the directions. You'll also find that user's manuals are usually just a .pdf file in your new PC instead of the 'booklet' that we used to get.
How do i reboot my laptop back to factory settings
To reboot to factory setting you need to have the restore disk from the computer, put it in the drive and restart with the cd in the drive, if the startup screen does not start right away you need to type f11 or f6 to change startup order to cd first the the restore screen will startup and click restore factory settings
I need to know where i can find a new startup disc for an e machine
You can order a set of recovery disks here:
https://secure.tx.acer.com/RCDB/Main.aspx?brand=emachines
They are about $20 plus shipping, and you need to input your machine's serial number to insure you obtain the correct disks.
Hope this helps.
