I have been told the electronic filter may be
    bad.
Could this keep the oven element from coming
    on?

Have you tested the new element to see if it is getting voltage to heat up? if it is you may have gotten a defective part, it happens more than you think, also check the connections at the element, the screws that connect the wire's to the heating element may have not been tightened properly or they were overtightened and the wire connector is broken at the rear of the element, these connections are at the very back of the heating element, easy to check, you will need a volt meter that reads up to 250 volts AC. There is a very significant danger of electrical shock here so if you are not experienced at electrical work don't attempt this yourself, seek professional help.

Your problem is with the main control circuit not giving currect power to burner element. Check to see if there is any relays that go from main control to element. Othewise there may be a bad capacitor or other component on main board that is shorting out element

Did you check the wiring harness from control knob or board to temperature probe and element?

If you already replaced element and thermostat , that may be the problem.

Element and temp probe can be tested reading continuity. The temp probe has low impedance at room temperature, if has no continuity is gone.

My oven preheated fine and when I put the stuff in the oven the broiler element was still on and wouldn't go off. Do you know what would cause this?

It sounds like the broil relay contacts welded themselves shut (closed). You will need to replace the Electronic Oven Control (EOC).

The oven preheats, but then "cools down" before I

Most likely the problem is your bake element. When the oven is preheating it uses both the bake and the broil element. When it's done preheating it uses only the bake element, so the broil element is heating it up, and since the bake element is not working the temperature drops until it starts preheating again.

The bottom element in oven seems to only preheat to about 250 degress

you can adjust the temparature settings by increasing the it to get higher temparatures. if that doesent work then check that the all the elements in the bottom oven are working and not burnt out, you can replace the bad ones

Oven does not heat

This clicking sound.. If it is coming from the control panel area could be indicative of a relay that is malfunctioning.
For giggles try the oven on just broil. See if the upper element comes on and stays on, or if it too shuts down.
If it stays on then you most likely have a bad control board.
If it shuts off like the bake element and does not come back on, I would carefully inspect your power cord and cord connections as well as the range outlet.
Good luck!

Hi ,I have model jgs8850ads,it takes along time to preheat, about 40 min. what could this be? please respond.

is this a duel fuel with an electric oven..... the bake is the bottom and the broil is the top both cycle on and off to preheat the oven.... if ur lower bake element is burnt out then u woould expereicnce the problem u stated..... if u have a gas oven then ur ignitor or glow bar is probably burnt out....... either way it sounds like your bake element or bake ignitor has failed

Oven Not Working

It could be the element, but if neither the top or bottom element are coming on, it could be an issue with the electronics... Have you tried any of the other oven functions? Is it a convection oven? Maybe try using the convection bake or roast/convection roast functions..(roast function doesn't go through a pre-heat cycle, I have the same stove). If it's still under warranty, I would be calling for service.

Viking oven broil keeps on

it is designed to preheat this way. after the unit cycles the red indicator light off the first time than both elements turn off. when it calls for heat again only the bake elements comes on. makes the preheating work faster.

Self clean burnout

1758, have the technician start with the terminal block. This is where the power is hooked to the range. Check for loose connections, cracks, burnt wires. Are you sure the board and relays are burnt out? Have him check the thermal disk that sits on top of the oven cavity. If this is open, no heat. In the past I had to move or elevate these TCO's away from the vent. I would use two small nuts to elevate it from the oven body to prevent it opening during cleaning. These are just a couple of things to check. Catriver...post back.
