SOURCE: Spa Pools, setting up spa pool with chemicals etc

Hi curlyall,

I'm Harvey the Master Plumber.

Your problem is: You have just brought a secound hand spa, you are woundering what sort of chemicals etc are required, there are no instuctions with it

If your spa is the type that you fill once, then you must treat it just like a swiming pool. Go to the local pool supplies store. They will be happy to set you up. Don't forget PH testing kit! Test it every day. And I prefer non chlorine chemicals. It's also helpfull to have a small submersible pump in case you need to replace the water sometime. Happy soaking!

SOURCE: what chemicals do we use in spa

same as a pool..unless its under 300 gallons..then its cheaper to drain it completely and refill..add a few cups of household bleach to it after filling..

What chemicals do I need in my intex inflatable hot tub

Hi, according to this site How to Treat Your Hot Tub Best Hot Tub for 2014
First check th pH levels with the pH level checker. That is pretty straightforward and should be included in instructions with your pH checker (which may have come with your hot tub)

It's good to do a chlorine shock once you fill the hot tub with water.

So what will you need?
pH tester/pH tester strips
chlorine
And chemicals for balancing ph ... pH+ and pH- which you will surely find in a shop with pools.
Each of this should come with instructions.
Good luck!

I have brown gunk sticking to the walls appearing to come from the pipes in my Spa

You have one of four possible issues in your hot tub.

  1. Mold
  2. Algae
  3. Hard water
  4. Calcium
The first thing you want to establish is if the problem is organic or non-organic, because the solution to the issue is different for both. If it is organic mold or algae then you need to drain clean and sanitize everything, tub, filter, hot tub cover etc.. and it may take more then one refilling depending on what it is. You could try and take a sample in a clear jar and put bleach in the jar. If the substance in the water disappears you know its organic.

If the issue is water hardness or calcium then you will need the corresponding chemicals to deal with these issue. We have a chemical called spa control that deals with water hardness. You may also want to use a a pre-filter when filling your hot tub to rid yourself of high content minerals in your water.

EN1 On Spa What does it mean

Hi, if you are seeing an EN-1 code, there isn't any troubleshooting that can be done to resolve it. This code indicates an electrical issue internally, the Power Pack is unable to register the temperature of the water. The unit will need to be serviced. Please contact Oceantis at (855) 772-6269. Oceantis is the only authorized service provider for all of Comfortline Products Spas in North America.

I filled my pool with hard well water. I added salt, waited, then turned on salter system. Water is brown. Is this from the hard water? How can I correct this?

The brown water is from the well water used. For an average pool of 18x52 I would add 2-3 gallons of regular chlorine and filter filter filter
If you are using the pump that came with the intex pool you will want to blast the filter cartridge with the garden hose about every 12 hours so that your flow doesn't slow down too much

Need to know what kind of chemicals and chlorine tablets or what to add to the Krystal Clear Model 635 Filter Pump and where do they go. Manuel only talks about changing filter.

The chemicals are added to the pool or spa, not to the pump or filter. Get some basic knowledge on pool water treatment either by reading or going to a local pool / spa shop.

When I worked at a municipal pool, we used Chlorine Gas in 4 foot steel bottles. It was evil stuff. You need test equipment so you don't over dose the water.

How do you drain the spa?

There is probably a drain valve somewhere near the control panel ... forgetabout it ... too slow.

Best way is to get a small pump and pump it away. Next best is wet dry (shop vac). My favorite is siphon ... dont have to buy anything or drag anything out ... only a hose. By the time my water is out ... I have had time to do the necessary surface cleaning and waxing.
