    Subject JVC TD-W118 Cassett Deck

Thank you for your helpful answer. The information below is from Amazon.com. Do you confirm that the part about two deck being able to auto-reverse simultaneously is an error? This is very important to me as I have hundreds of tapes to convert to digital form. Thank you.

JVC TD-W118BK - Dual cassette deck - black

    Product Description

JVC keeps its technological edge in the engineering of component audio and video equipment. JVC cassette decks combine ease of use and high sound quality through sophisticated digital engineering. The TD-W118 features two decks, one for playback and record, the other for playback only, and both can auto-reverse simultaneously. Silent mechanisms make quiet work of the whole process, and high-speed editing leaves you time to enjoy the two-tape continuous playback. Continuous Play allows you to load two cassettes into the unit, and select PLAY on each deck. When tape A finishes and shuts off, tape B will begin to play, allowing for uninterrupted listening. Additional features include high-speed editing, Dolby B noise reduction, LED multi-peak level indicator, 3-digit tape counter, auto tape selector (Normal/CrO2/Metal), full-mode auto stop, metal tape capability.

    nLinked,

Your replies are very helpful and most appreciated!!!!!!

According to Wikipedia "auto-reverse" means you can play a tape in two directions without opening the bay and flipping (rotating) the cassette. This is the feature I wish to use. I could not find it in the manual and you could not find it in the manual, which means even if it is a capability the machine does possess, the manufacturer does support it. Users you are on you own (except for FixYa)!

    From Wikipedia.com

Compact Cassettes consist of two miniature spools,
between which a magnetically coated plastic tape is passed and wound.
These spools and their attendant parts are held inside a protective
plastic shell. Two stereo pairs of tracks (four total) or two monaural
audio tracks are available on the tape; one stereo pair or one
monophonic track is played or recorded when the tape is moving in one
direction and the second pair when moving in the other direction. This
reversal is achieved either by manually flipping the cassette or by
having the machine itself change the direction of tape movement
    ("auto-reverse").[3]

Thank you so very much for you help. While the question is not completely answered, you have given it an excellent effort and produced very helpful information. Apparently only the factory can go beyond what you have provided. Thank you again!!

Dear ads4me

I can confirm that the JVC TD-W118 does not have an auto-reverse/rewind feature. This will have to be performed manually using the rewind feature.

As an extra reference, I have provided the manual for the deck for you. You can get it by clicking here.

Hope I have been helpful :)

Kind regards

    Thank you for your reply.

The manual makes no mention of auto-reverse or instructions for using this feature. Having a look at your link to Amazon made me search the Internet and most descriptions to mention auto-reversal.

There seem to be no clear methods on using the reverse feature.

What I would suggest, is place any two tapes in which you are happy to temporarily record over, but, have both them fast-forwarded to the very end.

Then, manually rewind each one for a about 6 seconds (if it allows you to rewind both at the same time please use this feature).

Once rewinded a little, allow tape 2 record from tape 1 (regardless if the tape is blank). Wait until it gets to the end and see if the tapes auto-reverse or change sides.

With the lack of information on this unit from JVC, and a look through the rest of our database, there appears to be no clear instructions on this feature. I'm afraid you will need to resort to manually testing the feature until/if you manage to get auto-reversal working.

Hope I have been of some help.

    Best regards

    Thank you for your reply.

Done some more research but still coudn't get any clear instructions on how to activate the auto-reverse function.

One thing you can try, as is the case with most tape players, is play a cassette that has something recording on it on both sides. Fast-forward your way to near the end of one side. Play it, and when it reaches the end of the tape, see if it automatically switches sides and plays side 2 without manual removal.

If this works, I guess it's simply a case of allowing the tape to reach the end and let it auto-reverse.

If the above test doesn't help, I'm stumped! Not sure how auto-reverse will work if you're recording though.

    Hope the above works :)

    Best regards

Jvc mxs-20 memory loss?

It may have a super cap in it that has gone dry just as like a battery would after many years. The service manual will show you where it is and then the replacement is not hard once the value is determined as they have them at Mouser Electronics. They are usually soldered in.

Ok I have an Onkyo HTS8409 Network A / V Home Theater System - 7.1 Channel, and dvd player and want to know how to connect a equalizer technics sh-GE70 but i dont have a cassete deck

Equalizer is connected in between the deck and the reciever. Deck into the input of the equalizer, and the out of the equalizer goes into the tape input on the reciever.

How to conect a equalizer sh-ge70 to a receiver hdmi

Any equalizer I have seen can be hooked to the tape loop of a receiver and then any tape deck displaced from that loop if one was plugged in will be hooked to the tape loo[p on the equalizer.
This is a very simple process and one that is often given in the owners manual of the equalizer involved.

Hi, when I put a cassete in my tape deck TD-W315 the cassete runs very fast. It looks like a LP in 78 RPM? Does anybody can help me?

Check to see if the capstain roller is pressing against the capstain. Sometimes they get stuck or something has broke preventing it from pressing on the tape.

On jvc tdw11

the line out of a tape deck is about 1 volt peak, the output of a turntable is about 3-5mV on average.
Not sure what issue you are having but the turntable cannot be directly plugged into the cassette deck for recording LP to cassette. it would have to go through the receiver.
