Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ...

Here are some things that you can do to try to correct it. They only seem to work for less than 50% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty, they're worth a try.

Some of the later steps do involve some risk to the camera, so carefully weigh your options before deciding to conduct them:

LENS ERROR ON KEEPS COMMING UP.HOW DO YOU RESTART IT?! WHY TELL YOU TO RESTART IT WHEN YOU DONT KNOW HOW TOO?IVE LOOKED EVERYWHERE

Lens errors are fairly common. As you've found, the recommendation to restart (turning the camera off and then back on again) usually does not work. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ... Unfortunately, many cameras that fall prey to this can only be corrected by professional repair. But, here are some things that you can do that may correct it. They only seem to work for less than 40% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty, they're worth a try.

Camera lens error.

I had a similar problem like this...and I typed in the error code for a similar camera...and they said I had to pay to get it fixed when all I had to do was pull on the lens a little...it was kinda stuck in. Try that!

Lens Error

It is just telling you to try to turn the camera off and back on. This usually doesn't self correct and will need to be serviced. I would call Canon for support and see what the options are for service or upgrade.

Hope this helps!
