Question about Canon EOS-1Ds Mark II Digital Camera

2 Answers

White band suddenly began appearing on every image.

Its about 1/2 way down in the view finder and starts about 1/3 in from the left edge and goes all the way to the right edge. The left edge of the white band is at an angle and the top and bottom edges are perfectly straight. The white band takes up about 10% of the image. I had been shooting in very hot conditions at a boat race for four days with everything working just fine. Then it just started. I switched lenses, data cards, and even the battery; nothing helped. I used someone else's camera for the rest of the day and those images looked fine (given his camera). Is this a faulty sensor finally giving out (I've shot probably 50,000 images over the course of 4 1/2 years), or a sensor that simply gave up the ghost? Or is it a shutter problem? Whatever the problem is I'm wondering if its worth the cost of repairing. Also, perhaps Canon will replace at no charge???
Thanks for your help! Right now I'm (as they say in boating...) dead in the water and have missed the greatest boat racing event in my city's annual celebration.

Thank you, Sagha very much for your very quick reply and excellent advice. I am very fortunate to have a top notch, expert, professional camera repair shop nearby whom I trust greatly. I was hoping it was a shutter problem vs the sensor as I understand shutter repairs are less costly. Anyway, I deeply appreciate your assistance!

HI I AM SAGHA A CAMERA REPAIRER FROM MUMBAI, I THINK THE SYMPTOMS YOU HAVE OBSERVED ARE THE SYMBOL OF MINUTENESS & PERFECTION OF YOUR WORK.ANY WAY IT IS A COMMON PROBLEM OF SHUTTER BLADES OF 1DM2,IDSM2,IN WHICH ONE LEAF OF THE 2ND SHUTTER BLADE GETS DAMAGED WHICH GIVES WHITE BAND OF BRIGHTER LIGHT FROM LEFT TO RIGHT(NOT OF LINEAR SIZE). I THINK IT WILL BE LITTLE COSTLIER TO GET THE WHOLE SHUTTER BLADES REPLACED.IF U WOULD HAVE BEEN IN INDIA I WOULD HAVE GIVEN U SOME CHEAPER OPTION(LIKE REPLACING ONLY DEFECTIVE BLADE ONLY)WHICH NO SERVICE CENTRE WILL GIVE YOU.ANYWAY GET IT REPLACED FROM REPUTED EXPERIENCED REPAIRER & CHECK SLOWEST & FASTEST SPEEDS AFTER REPAIRING THE CAMERA.REPLY ME WITHOUT FAIL THANK YOU & ALL THE BEST.

The problem i m having with my camcorder is when i want to record film screen goes blank but i can watch my previous recorded videos

Look in the view finder when recording instead of the screen. if you see the image there then the unit is probably set to look through there. Many of the new units dont' have a full view finder to lens item they actually have a small lcd screen inside the view finder. Check your options for recording.

Also if the view finder is tilted you need to close that before usign the lcd.

The image will not appear simultaneously on the LCD

monitor and the viewfinder. It will appear in the

viewfinder when the LCD monitor is in the lock position,

and it will appear on the LCD monitor when fully
extended.

Clean the nozzles, align the print heads, turn it off for about an hour. You may need to do this twice, but it works for me.

Wiring of Ethernet cat6 cable for computer to the modem asm32 to excess to internet

Pinout is as follows:
http://www.mae.ufl.edu/sysinfo/cat6_cables.htm

Looking at the Cat6 connector with the lock tab facing up, look at the pins, (brass colored contacts) going from left to right.
From the left it's pins 1,2,3,4,5,6,7, and 8.

The wires are twisted together in pairs.

First pair
1.Pin 4 goes to the White wire with Blue bands.
2.Pin 5 goes to Blue wire.

Second pair
1.Pin 1 goes to the White wire with Orange bands.
2.Pin 2 goes to the Orange wire.

Third pair
1.Pin 3 goes to the White wire with Green bands.
2.Pin 6 goes to the Green wire.

Fourth pair
1.Pin 7 goes to the White wire with Brown bands.
2.Pin 8 goes to the Brown wire.

Dust inside my d200

The view finder and focusing screen are separate from the CCD sensor. The mirror reflects the image to the view finder until you take a picture. Then the mirror goes up, the shutter opens to expose the CCD to capture the image.

If you have a lot of dust, you should look into a cleaning kit, or have it professionally cleaned. This will show up on your images as white and/or black specks.

The Sony may have the same problem, Search on the Internet for key words:
Sony DSC717 ccd advisory. This camera was made in the time when the ccds had a problem (1999 to 2002).
You may want to call Sony for this one.

Powershot S1 IS trouble shooting in images of lcd monitor

Try playing back pictures you know were captured properly ( either with another properly working camera or with your camera before the problem with quality has appeared ). If the image is ok in playback but 'noisy' in capture mode then the CCD sensor is faulty /on its way out. Ask Canon if they repair CCD faults on this model free of charge.
