HP Compaq Presario V6048CL Overheating

Compaq Presario V6048CL has a new (refurb) motherboard and new AMD CPU, but shuts down during installation of XP Pro while copying files. The heat sink fan is running and increases speed to the max as expected, after which the shutdown occurs. That's what leading me to believe it's an overheating problem. Heat sink compound was applied during reassembly and heat sink pads are all in place. Adding an external, supplemental fan increases the time to shutdown, but it still shuts down. I'm not anxious to put any more money into this unit, but if there's a solution available, I would like to give it a try.

Take a look into bios and see if the the there is a shut down at certain temp is set ..to be sure ..just restore to factory defaults ...but the best thing is to take a look and remove the settings if there is a temperature limit on ..cpu temp...its risky ..but I always let it without limit and it was ok ...

Installing new motherboard, processor, mem, and video adapter. Powers on but no post.

If the beep is a very high pitched tone, turn off the computer. Your CPU is overheating. The thermal paste may not be spread correctly on the CPU or the heat sink isn't properly installed.

Otherwise, it's probably a memory error. This machine takes 2 GB of memory as 2 single GB memory sticks. Try booting the machine with only one DIMM installed. Try each stick individually before getting replacement memory.

I hope this helps.

Will a AMD Athlon 64 processor work in a Compaq Presario SR1050NX Desktop? My old processor Died and I purchased one of these off of Ebay, now just want to make sure it will work...

No Donnie, the motherboard for the Compaq Presario SR1050NX won't support an AMD Athlon 64 processor.

The reason why is;
A) The Processor socket on the SR1050NX's motherboard is a Socket A. (Also known as Socket 462)

Hp Support > Compaq Presario SR1050NX > Specifications > Motherboard Specifications >

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00072236&tmp_task=prodinfoCategory&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&product=405454

CPU = Central Processing Unit. Another term used is Microprocessor, or Processor for short.
Look to the right of the CPU heading:
Socket A (Processor socket)

This is the Socket A processor socket used on your motherboard,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socket_A

You can click on the photo of the Socket A processor socket, to the upper Right, to enlarge.

The AMD Athlon 64 line of processors came out after the Socket A, and used the Socket 939 first.
Then on to the Socket AM2.
(Socket 940 for some models)

My HP Compaq Presario v2000 has new mobo, new CPU

You probably put more than a pin-head size drop of heat grease compound on CPU, thus "bleeding" over on the CPU, effectively overheating processor (very common). In any event, your problem is overheating -that's *the* place to look for now.

COMPAQ PRESARIO V5000 POWERS OFF RANDOMLY

I do not believe this is OS related.

Dust bunnies under your bed? The CPU might be overheating. Check for dust and lint blockage in the cooling fins at the lower left rear. Vacuum the stuff out.

I have repaired 3 V5000s overheating because of dirt.

When you are trying to solve problems, remove the battery and run on AC. The battery is just another variable to complicate the issue.
