Official advice and support for Dyson technology

    Verified Fixya Pro

SOURCE: How do I dismantle my Dyson DC58 to clean all filter etc

Hi David, it's Jack at Dyson.

We'd advise against dismantling DC58 any further than is shown in the User guide. This could cause damage to your machine not covered under guarantee - meaning any replacement parts needed could be chargeable. However, you can wash the lifetime pre-filter following the steps shown in the video below:

We recommend washing the filter at least once a month, using cold water without detergent. Make sure the filter is totally dry before replacing it, which could take at least 24 hours.

To clean any fluff or debris from the mesh shroud, press the red bin base release catch once to open the bin base. Then with the base still open, press the same red catch firmly a second time:

You can use a dry cloth or a soft brush to remove any debris from the mesh shroud.

It's normal for harmless static to cause fine dust particles to cling to parts of the bin, cyclone pack and behind the mesh shroud. This dust will not affect performance as the airflow doesn't need to pass through this. You should find tapping the cyclone pack gently when emptying the machine will help dislodge any clinging particles.

I hope this helps, but for further advice you can call our experts directly on 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

My Dyson DC58 goes on and off in max mode

Hello, this is Ava with Think Crucial.

There are a number of reasons why your Dyson cleaner is pulsating off and on. First, it maybe due to a battery of the cleaner. Make sure that the power cable is properly plug to the power and seated properly from the unit while charging. If you find that the battery isn't charging at all, you may need to replace the battery. Second is to check the MAX button of your cleaner. If the button lights up and flashes when your Dyson keeps on pulsating, press and hold the power button and depress the MAX button to turn off the function. You may need to do it for a few times to get the hang of it. Third is to check for any blockages or clogs in the attachments. Look down through the tube and check to see if there are clogs on the sweeper end or if the roller is tangled up in fibers. Clean the roller brush are if it it's necessary. You may need to empty the dust bin of your unit as debris can build up in hard to reach places. Lastly, cleaning the filters may fix the pulsating of your cleaner. Remove the filter and rinse it with cold water and air dry it for 12 hours. Don't use detergent when washing your filters. If the pulsating doesn't go with the given quick fix, I suggest to contact Dyson for further assistance on this.

My DC 16 will only run for a second each trigger pull. The battery is fully charged, it has plenty of suction, just wont run for more than a second. I cleaned the filters.

I had the same problem with my Dyson DC16, where it only runs for a few seconds at a time with each trigger pull. My husband called Dyson (Canada) and without hassle they shipped us a replacement part which I just received this morning. The replacement part sent to us is: DC16 Main Body with Rating Plate. It is also under warranty for 1 year. The great customer service makes up for the flaw in the machine. Also, Dyson is aware of the problem. Hope this helps.
