You may have to change your settings in the program you're printing from to say "tabloid" instead of the plate size. You basically set everything to make the printer think it's printing 11x17 paper instead of a plate. The only thing I leave the same as a plate is the setting in Quark that says, "Media Type". I leave it on Polyester Plate.

Make sure you follow all the places that paper could jam. While it says "exit", that could be misleading. It could be there is paper in front of or after the toner plate.
Just a small torn scrap could do it.
But if there really is no paper, then it would be a sensor.
Most sensors are just light contact switches, and are easily bent or jammed when you pull paper out.
But there can also be light sensors that can just get dirty and need to be brushed off.
