My daughter has a Coolpix L18. She took it to the Mermaid Parade at Coney Island on a rainy day. Apparently, the camera got wet. Now when you turn it on, the screen is white. No image whatsoever. Does this happen to all digital cameras when they get rained on?

Digital cameras as with any digital equipment is very sensitive to moisture and needs to be kept dry. If this happened recently (within the last 2 days) there could still be hope, remove the batteries and flashmemory card, with a hairdryer on GENTLE heat and from a distance of one foot direct the slightly heated air into the battery compartment for a few minutes, alternate by blowing air gently around the whole casing of the camera. Do not use very hot air as this WILL misform the plastics of the camera. Do this a few times , then charge the batteries again put in memory card and try again.

Apparently this question has nothing to do with the Nikon L18 camera. Please repost in a more appropriate area so that the proper experts can see it and provide a solution.

Turning on a wet camera almost certainly will fry the circuits. Salt water will continue to corrode the electronics inside the camera. Start shopping and be careful next time.

Nikon Coolpix L18 suddenly states that card is not formatted.

Sounds as if the card is corrupted - you will have to use data recovery software.
