I cant' get a flow of gas through the regulator. Full tank of gas, plenty of spark. I can usually hear the gas flow when opening one of the three valves up top to light. So there is definitely no flow. I tried the "turn on the tank and wait for one minute" theory to no avail. The problem has steadily gotten worse over the course of one-and-a-half years I've had the grill. Usually I can unhook the line from the tank and hook it back up that starts the flow again. Now, even that doesn't work. Please help... Rick

Bill, two things possibly going on here that are common with an aging grill. First you need to turn off the fuel tank and set it aside. you mention that a clicking can be heard when pushing the igniter button which usually indicates good battery but if you have never changed it you may want to just as a good measure. Unscrew the bottom and you should find AA or AAA battery behind it. Now with battery good and the igniter generating a fast load clicking sound you want to get down and follow the wire that runs from the the back side of the igniter push button down inside and usually under the burner tubes ending out at one end of each burner. What happens when you press the igniter switch is, an electrical current is sent down the wire and when it reaches the end the current jumps to the closest metal it can find creating a spark.so you need to insure that the end of the wire is close to where the flame is generated but not so close that that you cant see a spark. Make sure the end of the wire is bare and clean as is the area on the burner where it arcs Now do this to all for burners. Turn all the knobs on the grill off and connect the tank. Make sure the lid is open now, and slowly open the valve on the tank. I say slowly like a ten count from close to full open. what can happen if you crank the tank valve open too quickly or with the grills valves open a vapor-lock effect can be created greatly reducing the flow of fuel from the tank. Iv'e seen many of the uninformed return 1/2 full tanks due to this problem. If you notice week flame or no flame but smell gas ALWAYS SHUT OFF VALVE ON TANK IMMEDIATELY KEEP LID OPEN AND LET THE AREA VENT BEFORE TRYING AGAIN lest you be the one being barbecued. Good Luck

Usually, a rapid or immediate loss of power is indicative of a major component failure on an engine...and its something you should consider. Some tell tale signs, smoke out of the exhaust (note the color); or severe noises like loud banging and knocking- time for a major engine repair / over-haul.

On the other hand, perhaps what is happening is just coincidental to some other problem that was already in the making and was exacerbated when you snapped open the throttle.

Check the gas flow from the tank through the delivery system and filter- check the fuel shut-off valve, make sure it's fully open and that it is free of any clogs which would prevent the full flow of gas to the carburetor. Check the carburetor, see if the float bowl is full of gas; if necessary, check for a faulty fuel pump.

Another remote possibility is stale gas- was the bike sitting in storage for a while or did you use gas from a can that was lying around in storage...especially if it is of an ethanol blend that absorbs moisture.

Check the electrical system for ground shorts, spark plug cables for any deterioration and intermittent spark, check the CDI for either a weak, no-spark or verify a strong spark; and so-forth.

If everything is so far okay, inspect the engine oil; it should look smooth, glossy, and somewhat transparent. and run some compression tests.

If you just installed a new, full tank of propane and turned it on and the burners wouldn't light.

Turn the tank off, disconnect from the grill hose (you'l hear a whooshing sound and smell gas, but that's alright). Wait several minutes and reconnect the hose to the tank. Turn the gas valve on very very slowly, until it's full open. Now, try lighting your grill.

Remember, you will need to turn the tank valve on very very slowly every time you change tanks or turn the tank off after grilling.

What happened was this ... When you turned the tank on quickly it locked up the grill's gas regulator. Doing what suggested usually solves the problem. Oh, one other thing ... be sure your tank is not empty. The grill you have uses a lot of gas.

It's possible you may need a new regulator, but usually this problem is due to opening the propane tank valve too fast, which can cause the built-in excess flow valve to check closed to only a trickle. Next time you use the grill, very slowly open the tank valve and see if that solves it. If not, replace the regulator. Douglas

age of the grill is irrelevant, i am old and i still can do few thingzzzz...

i assume that your regulator is connected directly to the bottle, then hose to your bottle, then hose is connected to the regulator and other end to the grill?

or it is bottle, hose, regulator, grill?

you need to follow the path regardless, be outside, light breeze is better, no open flame in at least 20m (yards) radius in any direction.

1. close gas bottle/tank
2. disconnect, everything from the bottle
3. crack open tank valve and hear if gas is escaping, close valve back
4. connect regulator to the bottle and again crack open the valve, hear if you have esacping gas, allow actually whiff of gas against your cheek or wetted finger to establish the flow. close the valve
5. connect hose to the regulator (procedure is reversed if first is hose and then regulator), crack open the valve, hear for escaping gas, check against wetted finger and cheek if there is flow, close the valve
6. connect your grill open all valves on it and open valve on the tank/bottle. allow free flow for about 30sec, close valves on grill. vent grill for about two minutes, try to ignite any of the burners. if burner ignite, you solved the problem, if they do not, and you did have flow on all previous stages, close bottle valve, disconnect everything from grill, clean grill valves and nozzles (burner have nozzle inside!), reconnect and vent again, try ignite, if ignition occures, you solve the problem, if not, then you are due for new grill...

if at any stage you do not have gas flow, this meant that this particular piece of equipment is in trouble, this particular piece of equipment need then repair or replacement, under no circumstance pull apart the reducer! NO OPEN FLAME DURING TESTING!!!

It could be a defective LP gas regulator or a restriction somewhere in the gas line for the bbq. This can also happen if the propane tank is overfilled.

First make sure that the LP tank is not overfilled. If you open the bleeder hole on the tank(small screw next to the valve) there should be no liquids coming out. If liquid propane is coming out then the tank is overfilled. Keep the bleeder screw loose until the liquid disappears then tighten. Re-connect the tank and see if that fixes the problem.

Then inspect all the gas lines on the bbq. Make sure that there are no kinks or crushed lines.

Then take a look at the gas regulator. Try turning on all the burners then give the regulator a couple good taps on the housing with something solid. See if the burner changes size. If it does and then goes back down it could be the gas regulator. Also take a look at the regulator housing. There should be a very small hole on the housing and it might be labled "vent". Make sure that this little hole is not plugged with any debris or that can cause a low pressure problem. You can use a sewing needle to gently poke out the hole. You will know if it worked because the burners will become much higher. And you could also try disconnecting the hose and regulator assembly from the bbq then turn on the LP tank slowly with the regulator connected. You should get plenty of gas flow from the end of the hose. Then use your hand to block and release the flow a couple times to try and clear any debris that might stuck in the regulator.BE VERY CAREFUL DOING THIS!!! MAKE SURE YOU ARE CLEAR OF ANY SOURCES OF IGNITION BEFORE TRYING TO CLEAR THE REGULATOR. Then reconnect the hose regulator and tank to see if the problem is fixed. If you are getting very low flow from the hose with the regulator disconnected then it is probably a defective regulator. They are pretty standard and you can purchase a new LP hose and regulator assembly from most home improvement stores.

If the regulator checks out good then I would think that there is a restriction in the main gas line for the bbq after the regulator. You will need you dis-assemble the main line and blow it out with some compressed air to clear the restriction.

there are a number of factors that can affect gas flow. #1. is the tank valve open? #2. check the POL spud [the thing that screws into the tank] for mud or anything that might plug the hole. #3. the regulator may be stuck, take a butter knife and tap the regulator with the handle lightly [that's the disc shaped thing that the POL is attached to]. #4. check the burner tube for restrictions such as a spider web or mud dauber nest

sounds like a problem with tank valve. Try attaching back to grill. Open valve slowly, if you open to fast valve thinks it is leaking and shuts down. If this doesnt work try a differant tank, buy always open slowly.

Go to Dome Depot. Lowes or whomever your large hardware store is and get and new regulator and connecting kit (it is probably the regulator), they are not expensive. If this does not do it, it may be the valve on the broiler, but not likely.
