No clue about dishwashers. We pre rinse the dished in the sink but still get gritty residue. The dishwasher came with the house and I can't find a manual on line. Model number is mdb5600aww it's a Maytag Quiet Series 100. where are these filters that may need cleaning? Any help would be appreciated.

You may have a defective "flapper valve". Look at a diagram/parts list. It is a $3 part and the installation is simple. The "flapper valve" serves as a check valve to prevent the drain water from flowing through the spray arms when the DW is emptying to the drain. The drain water has a lot of particulate matter from the dishes. Mine was stuck open with a long strip of hard soap scale. I probably could have reused the existing valve and just cleaned it. I believe the problem was caused by using the cheap DW detergent from Sams Club rather than the more expensive name brand. It had a tendency to build up a hard white crust that wouldn't dissolve. I replaced the flapper valve and cleaned the spray bars, and changed detergents. It cleans like new.

It took about two years to clean out all of the residue from the cheap DW detergent. The spray bar holes kept getting cloged with a white hard substance which was the cheap DW detergent that had built up in the DW piping. If you're having this problem try changing the DW detergent. The outcome was amaizing for me. I am using Cascade Complete and having no build-up problems. BK

The problem is most likely that there is still water residue at the bottom of your machine. If the machine is not fully drained it picks up some of the residue and sprays that onto the dishes during the final rinse, leaving an unhealthy and unsightly film on everything.
Remove the bottom strainers and make sure that there is nothing obstructing the outlet pipe and the pump. If possible back flush through the outlet pipe and try draining the machine again before using it again.

The problem is hard water leaving those spots. www.dishwasherfilter.com has a product to solve this problem once and for all. It filters the water going into your dishwasher and removes the hard minerals that leave those spots. It is very affordable and even has a money back guarantee. You will love the way your dishes look with this product.

Dishes not coming out clean

Check your hot water supply. It should be at least 125 degrees. Are the dishes spotty or still dirty with old food? Try to pre-rinse your dishes before putting them into the dishwasher. You can also run your hot water until it's nice and hot coming from the sink before turning your dishwasher on. If they're spotty, use less or better quality detergent. My guess is going to be water temperature or pressure.

My dishwasher leaves a cloudy residue on my dishes

The cloudy residue that is left on your dishes is soap that has not completly broken down.

There are a few solutions to the problem. First off, you want to ensure that you are using the "high temp wash" option. This will boost your water temp during the wash cycle to ensure that all the soap breaks down.

The second thing that you want to do to give your dishwasher a boost, is run the hot water in the sink and make sure it's pipping hot before you start your dishwasher. What this will do is ensure that the water that goes in for the "pre wash" portion of the wash is hot and will improve the wash quality.

Good luck!

Dishes have soap residue despite using rinse aid. Machine is quite abrasive on coffee mugs etc. Unit is Fisher & Paykel DD605SS

use less soap.....excess soap in the rinse cycle will not allow the dishes to rinse properly causing white etching on the glasses and the dishes will have that gritty feeling

White Residue

most likely it is your detergent. palmolive eco is notorious for leaving a white chalky residue on dishes. try this out before calling a service tech: put unclean glasses in the dishwasher and in your soap dish and rinse cycle cup put 1/2 cup of distilled white vinegar. if it cleans (or improves) your dishes, then your detergent is the culprit.

Bosch dishwasher

Although I previously posted with the same problem of a film on the dishes after cleaning, I did find a section in the owner's manual which solved my problem. Lift up the rinse aid cap on the inside door - the factory setting is on "4". The rinse aid works in conjunction with your local water, which has variations in it's hardness or softness. When your dishes are streaky, lower the rinse aid setting to 1 or 2. If your dishes are spotted, raise the rinse aid setting higher.
