My HE4160 just stopped yesterday, as I look under it i notice the problem is the drive belt from front to back has popped off. I have refitted, but there is a tensioner pulley in the center with a spring hanging down. I have no manual and cant see where to re-attach the tensioner spring. can anyone help?

You can start by getting a manual here:
http://manuals.mtdproducts.com/mtd/public/list.jsp

The above web site also has a "parts finder" that gives detailed drawings for each model.

If you look around under the mower, you should be able to find the hole, or bracket where the spring was hooked. (look for rub marks, or scratches)

If the spring just fell off for no apparent reason, it may have been connected to a bracket that broke off (rust, vibration, etc) It is usually easier to make a new bracket then to try finding a replacement.

Mtd 42" riding mower rear drive belt keeps popping off pulley

Hi, check the idler pulley arm and return spring on that belt. Its most likely not pivoting freely allowing the belt to loosen when you operate the clutch, regards Phil.

My lumina ran good all weekend with no problems. Yesterday I was driving to a friends house and the belts would squeak once in a while and the headlights and stuff would go dim for a few seconds than it...

Check coolant recevior for overfill status. Check the recevior for ckacks or damage. Check belt aligment and inspect belt for worn or adjustment. if anything is found , replace it.

How to change belt on Hoover DM6227T

Hi Diane
There are two options here; Go to the Hoover UK website and download the user manual (http://service.hoover.co.uk/manuals/Manuals.aspx?Section=6) and add in the DM6227 code and number without the T letter. The pdf downloadable (and free) user manual will upload to your computer.

Or follow this method:
There are two rear screws on the top of the hood of which you'll have to swing the handle all the way down to reveal both screws at the back of the top hood. Undo these screws and put them in a safe place. Then gently prise off the main control selector height dial and the top hood should be able to pop off easily. Then you'll main roller brush should be revealed as well as the broken belt.

Once the belt is removed, clean the brush roll of any threads or hairs that have stuck the bristles down. Then fit new belt, align the roller bar properly including the new drive belt and then refit the top hood back on, snap fitting down, two screws in and gently refit the control dial height adjuster back on making sure the front raised part of the dial knob is facing the Hoover.

Anything else don't hesitate to contact.
