I have a magnavox vcr DVD player that turns itself on and the dvd door disc door opens and closes all by it’s self. Repeatedly. I turn it off and it turns on all by itself and just keeps doing this.

What you have is called a transport problem in the VCR unit--the mechanism is either jammed or something in it that loads the tape is bad.

Every time it is used it cycles to self check the mechanism--if it fails it is usually a belt bad or a gear assembly not working.

Someone would have to open unit to see what is happening.

Any chance someone went near the DVD/VCR and dusted with some Pledge or any kind of dusting spray? It sounds like something has got the DVD driver chip acting crazy. May be a faulty disc tray switch telling the controller the door is opening and closing all the time. If its brand new, do you have an opportunity to take advantage of a warranty claim?

This Sounds like you need to have the flyback replaced on the main board!

unplug for 5 min when you turn it back on and push eject wiggle the door a little with your finger at the same time

Well that is a good question, If you can get at the pickup with cover removed first open door then close see if spindle turns and look for a red light to light up immediately.DO NOT LOOK DIRECTLY into the lens can hurt eyes! If it lights gently clean the lens with a soft micro fiber cloth. Keep in mind it is very fragile,also check to see if disc turns. If that does not repair it New one is only about $30-40

Mine just did the same thing about 1/2 hour ago. Found this site and tried advice of gopackgo - worked perfectly!

try turning the dvd player off and leaving it unplugged for 5 to 10 minutes then plugging it back up

Turn off the unit, Unplug it. wait 30 seconds. plug it back in. Press the power button on the unit press source so that its on dvd and press eject
