There are little toggle bolts hidden at the back underneath the seat. The location and the image is shown in this PDF:

It's difficult to describe how to disconnect them but pretty easy to figure out just fiddling with them once you find them.

Good luck.

Toliet seat lid doesnt drop slowly anymore ( 4 yrs. old )

Either live with it or replace it. The hinge is not serviceable and the soft close action does not last forever. They rarely last more than five years, maximum.

One side of the toilet seat has come loose and can be partially lifted

It'll take getting down on your hands and knees in front of a toilet, but oh well. :-) Look beneath the side that is loose. There will be a threaded plastic bolt coming down from the top of the toilet to below where you are looking. On this threaded bolt there is a nut that needs to be tightened. Reach up and tighten it as tight as you can with your fingers. To make it even tighter, use a pair of pliers... then just snug it firmly. For ease in getting it off another time (e.g. should you want to replace the seat cover), I suggest first taking the nut OFF. Then take plumbers silicone tape (found in the plumbing section at any hardware store; it looks like white thin, thin tape) and wrap the bolt with it. Note: you need to take pull the bolt out completely to do this. After wrapping it with silicone tape, insert it back into the hole, and then twist the nut back on; snugging-up with a pair of pliers. This will keep the nut from working itself off, and will make the nut come off easy should you ever desire. Good luck.... :-)

The tank wiggles/shakes doesnt seem secure. I am worried if I crank down on the bolts the tank will crack. Also my ceramic floor is not quit even there is a crunching noice when you set on the toilet....

you are correct if you overtighten the bolts the tank will crack.
They make rubber spacers that go between the tank and the stool, that can be put in to help the part of rocking or wiggly, try that.

with your toliet making a crunching noise on the tile, my first question is does the toliet rock at all? i would try and tighten the bolts on the base or the next step would be to pull the toliet and put a new wax ring then tighten it down. It makes a crunching sound because part of it is hitting the tile so makes sure it tight to the floor

Toliet won't get rid of solids

first shorten the chain from flush lever to the flapper valve by one or two links at a time until flushing properly

second the flapper valve might need a wipedown as well as its seal (top edge of tube where water goes down into bowl) the leaking is because the flapper valve is not seating properly.. you may need to replace the flapper itself.. easy to do, and a common part at hardware store.

Can you just buy a toliet seat base??

Im not sure I understand the question so please excuse me. You can buy a toilet seat, and they usually attach to the toilet bowl. If the porceline that the seat is attached to is broken then the bowl will most likely need to be replaced. Most of the time you can replace the toilet cheaper than just replacing the bowl. Hope this helps.

Toilet seat

Here's what I did. Unscrew them as much as possible. Then I used a bolt cutter and hacksaw to cut away as much of the plastic seat holders as possible. I could then remove most of the seat, and get better access to the screws. I then raised the loose screws enough to cut them with a bolt cutter. Soft screws cut easily. The screw heads are now out. Now, tap down on the screw/anchor and it falls into the bowl. It will stay there. The remaining problem is that you need anchors to secure the new toilet seat. Kohler wants $50. I have a usable but loose seat. Never again-Kohler.
I strongly recommend using a boltcutter. A hacksaw will tear up the bowl.

One of the softclose buffers on the Subway toilet seat has pulled

Each soft close 'Barrel' is handed - one left - one right. (One is grey - the other white).

Most soft close errors occur because the seat hinges come loose. When this happen, the barrels slightly pull-out of the seat. (There are silver discs on the barrels - These should be tight against the seat).

Once the barrels become loose the first thing that happens is the top cover won't soft close - but the seat still does.

To rectify - puch both barrels tighly into fitting and tighten the hinges. (See below).

To tighen the seat hinges you need to get a flat headed screwdriver underneath the chrome round hinge cover - and 'flick off'. Underneath is a X head screw which id also hexagonal. You can either tighen both by spanner - or screw driver. (sometimes these can be tricky - but it will come off).

If both cover AND seat do not soft close AND the barrel silver discs are firmly located against the seat - the barrel has probably broken.

If so - spare parts can be obtained here:

Toilet Question

Yes, it will run up your bill! Sounds like the float is hanging up. Take tank lid off and flush, watch the float and if your tank fills quickly but does not stop, bend the float arm to angle the float down further, this should allow your water to stop coming in much quicker. The other possibility could be if the plug at the bottom does not seal correctly after flushing, if so, the water will leak until the plug sits down all the way.
