How do you get a compressor to stop knocking like crazy with out replacing it?Im pretty sure there is noncondensables in the system. Can u just pump it down, add a L-line F-Dryer, vaccum it for a while and charge her up. or is that just a waste of time and refrigerant and just replace it. Thank You. Big AL

Are there any specs for an oil charge? In theory the line dryer and vacuum pump should draw any moisture out. If you can drain the old oil it may have metal chips from the knocking and then bloe out the compressor with fresh oil. This would mean dicing and splicing the lines to the compressor to purge the old oil.

But then you start with a clean compressor, known quantity of oil and vacuum it down to refill. Is it cheaper than a new compressor?

95 Buick Regal .it makes a knocking noise when running, but when I take belt off it stops.I replaced the water pump and it still knocks.

Said "knock" could be in the AC compressor or power steering unit since it don't knock with belt off.

How do you add the refrigerant yourself to your cooler GDM-12

I will tell you what the factory says. Get a reclaimer and remove the remaining refrigerant from the system. Put your vacuum pump on the system and finish removing the noncondensibles from the system. Take a scale that weighs in ounces and weigh in the exact charge stated on the spec. tag that gives you the model and serial number and refrigerant type and charge. If you just try to put some gas in you will have a refrigerator that builds up ice on the coil, wont shut off, makes bad sounds, and has compressor problems. Hope this helps and good luck.

I,t sounds like you had a leak, and pulled air into the system. This calls for professional servicing. Whenever there's a leak in a refrigeration system, air and sometimes other noncondensables get pulled into the system. They don't belong there. They cause heat and high pressure in the condenser, and will eventually destroy the compressor. The system needs dehydration and evacuation before charging. That's after all leaks have been repaired.

Have a 11yr old RUUD Uaka 060jaz with the A coil frozen, solid, no air getting through. Service tech came out and charged system with minimum 3lbs of r22 but suction pressure wouldn't go above 6

Hello, typiccally with noncondensables in the system your head pressure would be alot higher. 175 is pretty low high side pressure. Usually coils will freeze due to either low airflow or low refrigersmt charge not becuase of non condensables. I would get a second opinion from a differant company.

Im not getting fuel. Replaced fuel pump. worked

Before you go chasing a possible bad electrical connection, I would replace the fuel filter. At the same time when you have the fuel line disconnected at the pump side, place the line into a bottle and have someone crank the engine for a second or two to see if the pump is priming. Always make sure you have gas in the tank which many of us tend to overlook. Check the ground wire for the fuel pump and inspect the wire and connection for corrosion or damage.

Trying to figure out where the knocking is coming from, on engine

It all depends how loud the knock is. A tapping valve can be caused by low oil level, or dirty oil. Topping up or changing oil will solve the problem. A really loud valve tapping is abnormal. Cars sometimes make what you call a spark knock when accelerating hard. Extremely loud knock coming from deep within the engine is a bad sign, which means the engine has failed. Further examination would reveal metallic residue on the dipstick.
