    cause the keys are in the line ..that means that the problem is mechanical ..and you eother spelled something on it or some preasure is to blame or even a hit ..so ..you gonna have to change the keyboard..or if you are lucky just clean the region and might work ..cause if it was something like juice or beer it left a sticky track when it got dry and don't let the contacts to work ...but usually just have to change the keyboard..

If replacing keyboard did not solve problem, then problem could be:
1. Faulty keyboard controller - this means faulty motherboard.
or
2. Broken pins or dry joints on connector that connects to keyboard.

IBM thinkpad t42 with a t42p screen has weird lines all over the screen. I need to be able to fix this! Please.

Would like to ask.......
Did you state ThinkPad T42p LCD screen in a ThinkPad T42?

Same type?
XGA to XGA, or SXGA to SXGA, or UXGA to UXGA?

Did you use the screen Inverter out of the T42p?
An LCD screen, and a screen Inverter are a Matched unit.
Post back in a Comment.

Moving on..........

Diagnose:
Problem can be;
1) Graphics chipset
2) Video Cable
3) Screen Inverter
4) LCD screen

I will detail a diagnostic flowchart, along with my input; after the question above has been answered.

No use detailing it out if;

One: YOU are the one who replaced the LCD screen.
You already know the disassembly procedures, and this will greatly shorten the flowchart I would have stated.

Two: It\'s the wrong LCD screen, or the wrong screen Inverter is being used.

Awaiting reply, please post in a Comment.

The keys that are alpha - numberic are typeing numbers instead of alphabet.

There should be a key marked [FN] check that key for something stuck under it. If nothing is there press the [FN] key and make sure the number lock is off and see if that corrects the problem. If it doesn't the next step would be double checking the keyboard selection inside windows and reloading the keyboard drivers finally if nothing from above corrects the problem you will need to replace the keyboard. If you have ever had that area open for maintenance or cleaning open it up again and make sure the connector hasn't come loose.

Cleaning the fan may help. I use a vacuum cleaner and hold the pipe against the air inlet of the computer and then against the exhaust outlet. That clears the fluff quite easily.
Hope this helps.

Cant find the colon on a IBM thinkpad

filmmakernz -

There should be a colon on any standard keyboard, to the right of the "L" key.

If you still can't find it, hold down the ALT key, then type "0", "5", "8", then release the ALT key. This should put a colon wherever you are, even in a DOS command line.

Problem with keyboard replacement in IBM Thinkpad R52

The keyboard you purchased (39T0704) is a US English keyboard. Change your input local in your "Keyboard" "Control Panel" to "EN English (United States)" and all your keys should work. As far as getting the English keyboard to work in German or Polish is very unlikely.
