Question about Mongoose Bmx Bicycle Brake Lever Bike Parts 536

1 Answer

Newly purchased (used) Mongoose BMX 20" boy's bike. Brakes don't work, properly. Bike shop says it's a "design flaw" caused by cost-cutting measures. Levers don't seem to be advancing enough pressure to the pads.

You can titen the cable down and that will put more pressure on the tire.

What is the crank bearing size??

Almost all Mongoose models use the standard BSA 68.
I would write a question to them at:
http://mongoosebikes.net/mongoose-bmx-bike/20-mongoose-mode-270-v2-freestyle-bmx-bike/
This bearing should not fail during the normal life of the bicycle, unless the rider weight is over 80 Kg.

I am wondering where I can order a back wheel for the mongoose 20 inch outer limit boys bike. Accidently got run over and is very bent. Thank you deb

Any Mongoose dealer or bicycle shop should be able to handle that or just web search for a 20" BMX wheel. It doesn't appear to be unique.

I took the brakes off my bike and now the bike won't steer right and I don't know if it's because the bolts not tight enough or I messed something up

Best thing to do is too take into a bike shop and have them take a look. It really isn't possible to tell you what is wrong and how to fix it without seeing it.

Taking the brakes off your bike should have no effect on steering as the two things are not connected, so your assessment that you messed things up sounds pretty accurate.

After the bike is built by the owner, is there a checklist / quick tips to make sure the buike was built properly and ready to ride

You can go onto the mongoose website for a checklist, also sites like Schwinn and Huffy have good ones and videos as well.

You can also take the bike into a bike shop and have them inspect it and look for any potential problems or incorrect build issues. They will not charge to inspect, only to fix if you choose. I would recommend pay them the nominal fee to fix the problem if there is one, that way you are sure. It is the only true way to be sure.

Rear brakes need adjusted how do i do this

Take it to a bike shop, you are dealing with a trick bike. You do not want to have the brakes fail from a bad adjustment, unless you have the right tools and know how, because you are having to deal with the spacing on the detangler and it takes skill to do it right, do not do it yourself. Someone can get hurt in a diy.
