Question about Dell Computers & Internet

3 Answers

My dell inspirion won't start-up, I just replaced the Cmos battery, and I also bought a new battery[kd476, 85w] If I try to boot with or without the battery, same thing happens. After pressing the power button, the 3 green lts come on but then turn off after a few seconds, nothing appears on the screen nor is their any noise. Seems dead! Any suggestions? Thanks, Debby When I plug the AC adapter in the green light is lit.

    Hi,
    Thanks for replying back.
OK, I have the entire laptop stripped so now I will put the processor back in and the memory, once I put those back in, since the monitor isn't hooked up nor the harddrive, cooling fan, or CMOS battery will be in the laptop, what will I be looking for?
I'm sorry, its just that I am clueless about this, this is the 1st time I have ever opened and stripped a laptop :(
Am I suppose to put more stuff in before I plug the AC adapter in? The laptop is completely stripped except for the motherboard.

    Thanks,
    Debby

Display could be bad, try plugging in an external PC display to verify it.
Other than that it may be the main board is bad.
Some older laptops and PC's had issues with capacitors going bad and would fail to boot.
There was a recall but I'm sure that expired now.
If it's new and under warranty contact www.dell.com to get an RMA to send it in.

Remove the battery and plug the ac adapter. Then turn on and see if it works. If it does then replace the main battery. If not then try cleaning RAM contacts with dry paper. There seems to be a problem with the power supply.

Well a series of issues could be causing that, but one of the most evident one I can think of is a processor issue, if your processor is dead, your computer will try to boot and simply shut down, but also there are other times when a mulfunctioning RAM chip or other internal component could be resulting in POST errors that are critical to the point that the computer wont boot past that error. But first try and leave the computer connected to AC power for a while and let the Battery charge as much as possible.
Then I would suggest (if your okay with stripping computers) you strip it of everything but the motherboard and the processor, the add a RAM chip and try to boot, if that works, add thr second RAm chip if you use two and try to boot again. if it still works, keep adding other components like the HDD, keyboard, additional boards, etc until you get down to the bad guy...

How come my dell e521 wont boot up after replacing cmos battery?

Your computer has other problem than the CMOS battery. Most of the desktops if not all can start without battery. Moreover if the battery was used up or very low in power usually the Dell desktops will let you know about it so you can replace it. I suggest you disconnect all drives and extra PCI cards. After turnning the pc on you will notice if the Bios screen shows up quickly. Then add one component at the time and see if you can find what is causing the problem.

I need to replace the cmos battery on my dell inspirion 1000. I know where it goes, I just need a replacement. do you happen to know the battery number. Thanks

Hi rsulsr, the #number of the CMOS battery should be written on the top of the battery. Write down the part / model number and you be able to replace it. Thanks for using Fix' Ya. If this helped, please let me know by giving a "Helpful Rating;" thanks again.

Try this: Disconnect AC power, pull the battery, then press and hold the power button for 10 seconds. Release the button, replace the battery & AC, and try booting.

Dell inspiron 1525 battery not charging properly

You could try buying a new laptop battery. Typically laptop batteries lose their luster after a year.

If the laptop is booting up to a system clock for you to enter the correct date and time, then you may also need a new CMOS battery. They're a small battery on the motherboard.

Both batteries are fairly cheap but you may want to take the laptop to a certified tech to test or replace the CMOS.

OR if the laptop is still under warranty then get Dell to do it for you.
