Question about Yamaha 12V Air Pump

3 Answers

After 1 year of using my 2001 Yamaha XLT 1200 with only 97 hrs, i changed a new sparks plugs and new battery and helped with fluid starter, didn't start. I changed the 1 year old gas by a new gas, didn't start. after i took out the 3 sparks plugs, i saw that the middle spark was a bit wet, and the 2 others were not wet, is that normal, please advise. ps ; i did use almost 1 bottle of fluid starter to help start the engine, it did help to start it for a minute. please advise. Thanks

    Thanks for your email.
If i understand correctly, i do have 2 problems?
    1- the wet sparks plug
    2- the starter relay?

Or it is a 1 problem together?

    Thanks.

    Thanks for your email.
2001 Yamaha XLT 1200 do not have a carb, it's fuel injected.
I did change the Plug with a new one, same thing, a bit wet on the head of the plug.
Where is the Starter located at?

    Thanks for responding.

Your carbs are dirty and so is you fuel filter, have them cleaned inside and out and all the jets cleaned, replace the fuel filter and you'll be good to go.

Clean or replace the injectors. The wet plug is from a leaky injector.

If the starter was bad it wouln't turn over the motor.

Purchase a new plug for the one that is wet I have seen brand new plugs come defective from the factory. I recomend denso whenever possible, also when storing the unit run all gas out and restart until no gas is left this will ensure that no varnish or gum will build up from bad gas. If this doesn't work the carb must be removed, disassembled, cleaned with gumout solvent then blown out with compressed air then reassembled and tried.

Sometimes when the engine becomes flooded the starter has a hard time overcoming the higher compression created with a flooded condition, make sure the battery is charged fully and pull out the spark plug then with the throttle at 3/4 or 1/2 turn over the motor for ten seconds this will force out some of the excessive gas. If the starter will not engage while you sit on the mower either the starter relay is bad the seats safety switch faulty or the battery is weak. Either way I would definately replace the spark plug.

Please disregard the part of the last thread concerning a seat safety switch

Chances are it is one problem a bad plug.

Wet sparks are definitely a problem. Check the fuses under the front in a round cover, 1 fuse is for the starter, but the cover must be on after checking the fuses. If everything looks good you most probably will need a new starter relay. It is located in the black box on the rear wall of the forward compartment. It is the one with the 2 red starter cables going to it and a brown and black wire coming off of it. Check this.

If it runs when you spray starter fluid in you know the ignition system and all related systems are working. On an '86 you have an in-take electric fuel pump. You need to confirm that it runs and that it is supplying adequate fuel pressure in the system.

2002 Ford Escape XLT OD light blinking - am told it may be a torque converter cellunoid - only has 80K on it & I bought it new! Any ideas? How expensive is the fix? Would it help to change the...

The Trans fluid should be changed every 30,000 miles or two years.
Changing any fluid on a vehicle is never a fix for anything, just preventative maintenance.
You should have done the Power Steering Fluid, Trans Fluid,Brake Fluid,Etc a couple of times, before getting to 80K.

Also I would hope you changed the spark plugs buy at least 60K.

You may have a TCC Solenoid going bad,but the engages the torque converter clutch.

Is it shifting into OD? Most likely you have a solenoid issue, but need to find out which one. Most fords have a solenoid pack in the trans, with all of them in one unit. Not sure on yours.

The only way it will be expensive, is if you go to a dealer or get pitched some story by a shop, not able to diagnose, what is most likely a simple fix.

My 2001 yamaha 1100 v-star custom has a hard time starting.

Hi, Ataylor42779 and the usual suspects are:
1. Spark plugs in bad condition or have an improper gap or are partially fouled.
2. Spark plug cables in bad condition.
3. Battery damaged or nearly discharged, should have 12.5 volts.
4. Check battery terminals for damage or corrosion, check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter if necessary.
5. Throttle controls not adjusted correctly.
6. Water or dirt in the fuel system.
7. Water or dirt in the carburetor.
8. Faulty fuel pump.
9. Intake air leak.
10. Fuel tank vent hose and vapor valve plugged, or fuel line closed off, restricting fuel flow.
11. Enricher valve inoperative.
12. Engine lubricant to heavy (winter operation).
13. Ignition is not functioning properly (possible sensor failure).
14. Faulty ignition coil.
15. Valves sticking.

It has not been run for about a year the battery was flat so i charged it but all it does is turn over, it has not started

hello. Put new gas in the tank, a new spark plug, and a new air filter. Then use some starter fluid and put a couple of squirts in the hole before you install the spark plug. It will start, and if it doesn't repeat.
