Question about Refrigerators

1 Answer

My (very old) Beverage-Air MT45 refrigerator just stopped cooling. The compressor seems to switch on, then immediately turn off. Is the compressor bad or just the start circuit? Anyone know how to diagnose this? I do have an ohm meter and other tools but am not familiar with refrigeration circuitry. I probably should just call someone to repair, but given the age I'm not sure it's worth fixing if it's something as dire as replacing the compressor. Thanks!

I understand that you believe the relay may be the problem - thanks. But it looks to me from what I see online that the Pro 41 relay is very different from the one I have. The one in my unit is marked as part number 3ARR2-CR78S. Here's a picture:

As you can see, the upper left contact is pretty corroded which can't be good.

Will the Pro 41 relay serve as a replacement for this guy? If not, does anyone know where to find a replacement? I've looked online and cannot even see this part listed in the be BevAir parts catalog.

    Thanks!

MT45 0705I02 R12 not cooling, motor in bottom not working as well.

I had the exact same problem. The condenser fan in the bottom should run all the time. The entire condenser unit (compressor, coils and fan) sit on a metal tray that may be rusted to the bottom of the unit so a few taps from a hammer from the back may be needed to slide it forward. Once you can get to the fan, check the wiring. On mine the spade plug had rusted away. Follow the wires from the fan to a small box on the side of the compressor. Make sure the fan wires are securely connected to the terminal block. There are two male spade connectors that provide constant 120v. They point up. Make sure there is power and the fan motor is connected.

Unit powers up, lights work, motor is running but it is not getting cold. The unit was given to me. It is only 1 year old and it worked when I put it on the truck.

Beverage-Air are very good about helping the customer. Just be sure you don't leave out your serial number. The seem to get lost without that. Thanks, Sea Breeze

I am pretty certain that Beverage Air is owned by Sanyo.

Take a look at their website and see what you find.

But isn't the light holder just a standard florescent or other type of bulb holder?
