Will it cause a big problem If I install a 2 ton condenser

Will it cause big problems if if I install a 2 ton condenser to a ton and a half evaporator.the discharge line coming off the condenser is 3/8'' OD and enters a i3/8" filter dyer and comes out the dryer a 1/4''OD line that enters the evap. coil which has a orffice metering device that has not been changed. I would just like to know what type of problems could a rise by doing this.

If is 2ton it'll work fine only it will take a little longer to take out the humidity ,but dont put bigger than that Two ton is 24000 BTU you see in the model number a 24 between all the numbers and letters.

I don't think you would have any big probs. as long as you are not changing the compressor to a two ton, just vacuum and recharge to correct pressures and see how it runs, you certainly will not damage anything by trying.

You can find the tonnage in the model number which increases by increments of 12, so if the model number is 24 =2 tons. Model number on your a/handler is 17. Thats a ton and a half. Really should match the evap and condenser for the best efficiency. ...

as most ac units are capillary tube control not tx valve having matched units is critical. as for cost the condensing unit is much more complex and expensive than the evaporator.

2 ton unit

What evap coil can be efficiently used with a 10 seer rheem raka-024jaz condenser

Hello, if the outside condenser is 2 ton than the inside evap coil should be 2 ton aswell. There are 12,000 btu's per ton and the number 024 in the model # represents btu's per ton so you have a 2 ton unit.

Yes you will have problems you can go up a 1/2 half ton on the coil but not with the condenser don't do it you will regret it even with an expansion valve.

I have a Goodman CPLJ24-1B condenser unit & am needing to know what tonnage it is guessing 2 tons? Would this be big enough for 2000 sq ft of floor space? Block building with no wall insulation.

Yes, it is a 2ton unit and no, it's definitely not big enough. You need 1 cfm per square foot. That's 2000 cfm. 1 ton of air is equal to 400cfm. So you would actually need around a 5 ton unit to comfortably do a 2000sq ft building. Insulation, doors, windows, and other sources of heat load all factor in, but this is the standard formula. Hope this helps!

What is the size of coil in air handler is it 3 1/2 ton and believe that rudd only made 2 ,3 , 4, 5 , ton coil is this right

It is a 3.5 ton air handler and without knowing for sure about Rudd only making those sizes which they should, they more than likely would have gone up to a 4ton coil. One way to cross check this, is to see what ton the condenser outside says it is. If you have a 4ton condenser, then you should have a 3.5 to 4 ton coil, either being okay. What you don't want, is a 3 ton coil and a 4 ton condenser and so on. A half ton isn't going to be a problem regardless, but if anything, you can always take the measurements of the coil if you are trying to replace it.

When 13+ SEER condensers are replaced without installing a inside coil with an expansion valve the compressor in the new unit will slug and go bad. Slug means that liquid refrigerant returns to the compressor. Liquid can not be compressed so it causes the compressor to fail.

Carrier air handler tonnage?

That is a fairly large difference. It is usually ok to have the inside evap. coil and blower up to 1 ton larger than the outside condenser. That will make the unit slightly more efficient as well as less likely to freeze up on low airflow situations. It is not recommended to install a new condenser on an old evap coil. There has been a lot of changes to the design of the coils in the last little while. For example a 10 year old 2 ton coil may only have 3 cubic feet of volume but a new 2 ton coil may have 4 cubit feet of volume.

There are many factors that may have infulenced the decision on what size condenser to install. Many of which can only be done by visiting the home and doing alot of work, checking the duct sizing bioth supply and return, inspecting the insulation and windows of the home etc. etc. Most of the time that never gets done. You can blame the contractor for not doing a complete check, but at the same time you can blame the customer because many contractors that are that good loose the job to a cheaper bid that did not no any of the research. It is a catch 22 for everyone involved.

There is ALOT more to sizing equipment that many people think, sadly that also includes many HVAC contractors. Way too many people use "rule of thumbs" or flat out "guess".

Sorry for the rant but your queston can only be answered by a good well educated HVAC contractor visiting your home. That type of a contractor is getting hard to find these days in such a price competetive world.
