Dynex tv turns on and says please wait and gose black

Find out first is the tv black light that supplies the light so it projects a picture is not turning on. Shine a bright light like a flashlight in at the screen and cup your hands around your face or have another person do that. You should see a faint picture. If not most likely you have a black light malfunction. change channels while doing this and try accessing the menu. If you see all of this faintly with a flashlight, then it is the black light inverter which may be part of the power supply. Here is a link to Ebay. Failing Inverter An inverter, typically found inside a laptop computer, consists of a small board, which has impregnated electronic circuits stamped on it. Inverters look like thin boards about the of two sticks of chewing gum. The inverter and its bulb control the intensity of the liquid crystal display, which lights the screen monitor. The computer can control the output voltage of the inverter and either lighten or darken the screen. A special type of inverter can adjust the brightness of the screen by using an internal sensor to judge the room brightness, and then adjust the screen accordingly. Failing inverters give off some specific warning signs, which can be recognized by observing different screen characteristics.

Short Intermittent Display Upon turning on the laptop, the screen flashes on in the normal mode for a short period and then blinks to black. A very faint image appears in a dark background, which will be very hard to see almost invisible. After shutting off the laptop and restarting, the same mode occurs, where the screen appears normal for a few seconds then fades to black. This condition points to a failed inverter. To confirm this, plug in an operational external monitor; if the external monitor functions, the inverter has failed. b> Total Blackout with Ghost image b> The laptop turns on, as indicated by the power supply button, but the screen comes up black. The screen comes up black after restart. You might be able to detect a very dim or ghost-like image on the monitor. When you plug in a known functioning external monitor, the external monitor operates normally. This mode of display indicates a failed inverter. b> Long Term Periodic Operation b> With this failure mode, the laptop screen illuminates normally upon start-up and remains that way after several minutes, hours or even days, until it goes very dark again. Brightness controls or restoration attempts do not work. Most often, the screen will function normally with a computer restart, but will eventually return to black. Faint ghost images might appear, as seen in the total blackout mode. b> Dark With Color Variation b> Upon computer start-up, the monitor shows black or dark gray, accompanied by very faint images. The screen might have an intermittent color change, or remain on with a non-standard color variation, like pink or red. b> Auto Control Switch b> If the screen appears black, with no faint or ghost images, look for the lid switch near the back hinge. The switch, when depressed with a closed lid, shuts off the computer and monitor functions. Sometimes the switch becomes stuck in the closed position, disallowing the computer and monitor to turn on when opened. Pushing the switch manually several times can often free it up. If the switch tab has broken or jammed inside the case, it needs replacing. b> Loose Connection In this mode, the display looks normal upon start-up, but tapping the side case of the computer turns the screen black. More tapping results in the screen functioning normally then cutting out again. This condition points to a loose wire connection from the inverter to the LCD backlight lamp, or the video cable. The connectors can be accessed by removing the monitor bezel screws and pulling the plastic retainer off. Both connectors can be cleaned and refitted.

Hp touchsmart 520 when i press the power button the blue light come on sound like it turning on but a blank black screen done this from new

Let it power on. If it plays the normal windows music then look very carefully at the screen. You may need a flash light. If you see a faint image then your inverter board or back light have burnt out. It will a small board 1 x 2 inches usually and have a small wire coming from the power supply and one going to the bottom or top of the screen.

My LTV-32w6 westinghouse powers on & has sound but displays black screen with very faint colored vertical lines. It shows like this for about 1min before it goes into standby mode & the blue power...

Depends on what is causing it...

Vertical bands of faint black are generally caused by filtering capacitors and can be found in the power supply or the 5 volt supply or even the Video processing circuit...it is not an easy task to identify the source of Video hum bars.....we also call them Jailbars.

Another problem seen is faint black lines caused by the TV set being in 4:3 mode all the time....right at the edge of where the picture ends and the black pillars begin, we see a faint black line that never goes away and is normally seen with a full screen....

That is actually image retention, but it's caused by the crystals that create the picture becoming polarized or ionized over a very long period of time....and it's not easy to DE-Polarize them !

But there are some theories out on how to do that....
Certain people suggest running the TV overnight with an ALL-WHITE picture and some suggest an ALL BLACK PICTURE...and some suggest alternating between both !!

Now, a black picture is easy to make, you just deactivate the Video Mute (blue screen) and set it to an unused Video INPUT overnight....

About the only way to make a white screen is to use the USB port for pictures and take a very bright outdoor shot of a piece of white paper that hopefully is out of focus too....That would create an all-white picture that you can plug into your TV set overnight....

Now if you decide to try this, deactivate any displays on your TV set...all you do is press the display button until the Video and/or USB input numbers disappear....

Next day , set it back to normal TV and see if it's gone or if it's REDUCED....try it again if needed, or try the exact opposite if you see NO RESULTS....

Will not come on, the lights come on but the screen is still black

This sounds like you have bad capacitors on the power supply board. Look for bulging capacitors. Any weak capacitors will have a bulge at the top. If you know how flourescent lighting works with a ballast, tv's work the same way to power up the backlights but use capacitors. The backlights when lit allows you to see the picture. If they are not charging up fully you get a black screen or a very dim screen which looks black under normal lighting conditions. Sometimes you can turn off all lights and maybe see a faint picture.

Vx 2245wm "almost" Black screen

craigcorbin, Could be "switch-mode-power-supply"/CCFL "INVERTER" supply that is flakey or better still has a "thermal" problem. Thermal problems arise from temperature cycling of the parts on the circuit board that heat-up due to their need to dissapate energy in the form of heat, and then return to room temp when unit is turned off. Hot = expand, cold=contract After enough cycles occur on an already poorly soldered connection you will end up with a Thermally Intermittant connection which will only get worse due to oxidation of the now exposed RAW METALS to the surounding atmosphere. Sombody will need to open unit and inspect the board(s) for this type of fault. 12fixlouie

HP Pavilion dv7 won't light up

Connect an external monitor to the laptop. Power up the monitor first then the laptop. You should get a normal Windows display if the laptop is OK. This indicates the video card is functioning normally and you most likely have a faulty LCD display screen.
Get back to me with the results of this and any error messages and I might be able to advise the next course of action.

HP C6180 all in one

Have an HP C6180 that would not turn on, no power. Unplugged and replugged the unit in the back - no fix. Unplugged the unit at the wall socket, reconnected and I thought I heard a faint click in the power supply. Hit the on button and the C6180 powered up - no issues. Without knowing for sure, possibly the power supply has some type of surge arrest safety switch.
