You're going to have to repair your master boot record (it's okay if you don't know what that is, that's what we're here for! :-) ). I don't know what version of Windows you use, so pick the heading below that's right for you.

Windows XP

  1. Boot computer from Windows XP disc.
  2. Press R to enter the recovery console.
  3. Enter the administrator password if asked for it.
  4. Type "fixmbr" and hit enter.
  5. Reboot without the disc.
Windows Vista
  1. Boot computer from Windows Vista disc.
  2. Click "Repair your computer."
  3. Reboot without the disc.

NTLDR is missing. Press ctl+alt+del to restart.

I assume you are using Windows XP. This is what you do:

Windows XP users
  1. Get a Windows Installation CD. It doesn't have to be yours, anyone will do.
  2. Insert the Windows XP CD into the computer.
  3. When prompted to press any key to boot from the CD, press any key.
  4. Once in the Windows XP setup menu press the "R" key to lauch the Recovery Console to repair Windows.
  5. Log into your Windows installation by pressing the "1" key and pressing enter.
  6. You will then be prompted for your administrator password, enter that password. If you have none set, just press Enter without typing anything.
  7. Copy the below two files to the C:\ directory of the primary hard disk. In the below example, the files from the CD-ROM drive (which in this case is "D:\" are copied to the C:\ drive. This letter may be different on your computer.

    copy D:\i386\ntldr C:\ (hit Enter)
    copy D:\i386\ntdetect.com C:\ (hit Enter)

  8. Once both of these files have been successfully copied, remove the CD from the computer and reboot.
If you have any more questions or this is not clear to you, just come back here and leave a comment - I'm happy to help.

Hi I am doing a complete boot record format/delete on an "Acer Aspire 5315-2326" and when I try to install windows I get the error NTLDR is missing Press Ctl+Alt+Del to restart What is the problem I...

Ok, you deleted the boot record from your HDD, so it cannot boot now. You need to change the boot sequence to CD first, so you can install Windows from the CD. If the problems comes from the CD itself, maybe your disc is not bootable. Try another CD; if that fails, check your CD drive.
