Question about Frigidaire Side by Side 26.0 Cubic Foot Total Capacity Refrigerator
Frigidaire Fridge Model # FRS26HF7BB0. Fridge is making a low buzzing noise every few minutes for a few (15?) seconds. Freezer is losing coldness - temp inside freezer is reading 30 degrees. Vacuumed the coils and grill and turned the coldness up on the freezer about an hour ago. Still buzzing/temp still reading 30 degrees. We had a thunderstorm a few days ago and the pwer was going on-off on-off on-off for at least 20 minutes. Not sure if that is related. PLEASE Help!

SOURCE: Buzzing and low temps
sound like a compresser relay/overload ,uplug the refigerator remove back cover, remove relay that is on the compressor and check it by shaking it , it should not rattle. if it does replace it..

For the 25 year old freezer: a replacement compressor of the same BTU rating can be obtained and used as a replacement BUT at 25 years old I DO Not recommend the expense of a compressor replacement.
To the owner of the six year old freezer. The buzzing noise is more than likely the compressor cycling on its overload protector. This is an indication that the compressor has failed. In this case also I do not recommend replacing the compressor. If it was in warranty the manufacturer would bear the cost. Replacement compressor come with a one year warranty.

Either the start device for the compressor is bad or the compressor has died. The easiest way to tell is to replace the start device. It cost around 30-40 bucks and the part number for it is 218721119. In most of these cases its just a bad start device. The start device is located on the side of the compressor in the bottom back of the unit. It will have a capacitor attached to it that you will want to keep and stick on the new one. If you need anymore help just let me know. Good Luck!

That noise is typical when the compresor is trying to start but it doesn't , it could be the condensing fan motor that doesn't work and the compresor goes off on overload ; a common problem with this compresors is the relay (mounted at the side of the compresor behind a black plastic cover) goes bad , this you can replace is about $20 , and if still the compresor won't start you will need to put another one and this is an expensive job.
