Your DVD player is having an issue with the spindle motor (the thing that spins the DVD around). The following solution works for most people, and you should only have to do this once.

  1. Unplug the DVD player.
  2. Take the cover off.
  3. Place a disc on the spindle.
  4. Put a little pressure on the disc (so it doesn't slip) and spin it around a few times.
  5. Remove the disc, reassemble, and plug back in.
  6. Try to play a DVD.
  7. Report back if this solved your problem, or if more troubleshooting is needed.

Hi, just put a dvd in my player and the message "cannot read disc" comes up. it was working fine until then, now nothing plays. any ideas? It is a sony dvp ns30 multi region player, about 4 years old. I...

Make sure the dvd is clean. Use a microfiber cloth (like the ones that come with eye glasses) if that doesn't help, use warm water and a bit of soap, dry with microfiber cloth. If it still doesn't work, make sure the very edge of the disc is smooth. You may need to rub it vigerously to get it smooth, this is also a great place to look for tiny cracks.

ERROR H02

Spindle motor in DVD mechanism require replacement, not practical to repair, just buy new one, upconverting DVD player would cost you less then repair of your old one.

Player does not read disc-code HO3

I followed a few, of the already suggested answers. The first one I tried was to open up the back and use compressed air to blow out lint, food crumbs and dog hair that had found there way into the machine. This seem to have worked just fine. Now the machine is working, much to my daughters delight.

i once had a panasonic dvd player which displayed the same code H02 and used the same drive mechanism as your player. this turned out to be a worn spindle motor and once replaced, all worked fine. you may well have the same fault. hope this helps?

Displays "No Disc"

It can be several reasons
1. Disk is upside down
2. Lens is durty. CD/DVD cleaning disk will help
3. Disk is in different formate (for instance NTSC for US but you trying to playback disk in PAL)
4. Disk has different region code (look is the dvd player and disk have the same code, or ALL Regions code)
Good Luck

No Picture

i think this means it is dying. mine started to skip and then promptly stopped reading the disks too. i was told it may be the optical lense and it may be better to buy a new one than have it fixed. my problem now is that i can't find a replacement that is not upconvert (i see no difference in the component cables vs. hdmi). i am sad to lose this player. love it.
