Question about Kitchen Appliances - Others

GDO - Do I need a new Logic Board or is it something simpler?

I have a Sears Craftsman 1/2 HP Garage Door Opener...several years old. The receiver light on the Protector System is not staying lit. The orange transmitter is fine. The logic board LED is flashing 2 times indicating a ''short'' circuit with the Protector System or the wires were not wired correctly. I verified the wiring (black/white on term 3 and white on term 2) changed out both the receiver and transmitters on the Protector System as well as tested brand new bell wire. The problem still exists. The door will open fine, but not close unless I use the wall unit and hold down the button until it is all the way down. Is the problem the logic board? I think I have eliminated all other possibilities.

No, the problem is the photoelectric eyes. Check that they are properly aligned.

There is no way to change that radio frequency it is set by the government. Sears service technicians have an instrument to help them locate the interference that causes this type problem.

The only way a homeowner can test a logic board is with a good remote that is programmed to that logic board.

Craftsman 1/2hp garage opener Homelink must be under unit to work

Have you tired reprogramming the remotes to the opener?

The opener receiver board may have failed, which happens. You can order a new one from Sears or other places on the Internet, and they are fairly easy to replace.

Once replaced, you will need to program the receiver to you remotes again.

Remotes quit working on Craftsman 53975 garage

It sounds like you have a logic board problem. If your remotes work at all it is not a programming problem. You could pull the logic board and check for loose connections especially around the small transformer. 18 years for an opener is very lucky. Their average life is about 1/2 that.

Sears Craftsman Gar. door opener won't respond

There isn't a fuse. You are going to need to remove the cover on the opener and find out where you are losing the power. Maybe a neighbor has a volt meter you could use. I would check the power cord and then the logic board. Makes no sense but I would check for burnt or missing traces on the printed circuit board especially around that small transformer.

1/2 HP Craftsman Garage Door Opener works but lights don't

I think you are saying that normal incandescent bulbs do not work. If that is correct you should unplug the unit and using a small screwdriver reach into the socket and pull out slightly on the center contact.

Only 1 remote will work at a time

One of your remotes has reverted to an earlier technology and they will no longer work with each other. You need to purchase a new remote making sure you get the same model number. Then you will find you can program 2 that will work with each other and 1 that will not. Remove the battery from the bad remote and toss it so that it doesn't cause problems down the road.
