Check the position of the silent switch. Does it go on and off silent mode when you flip the switch? If not, it's a broken switch. Apple should give you a replacement. If you're out warranty, you can try to open the Headphone jack module that also has the silent switch on it. You can get the part on Ebay or at iPhone Repair and there is a free guide that shows you how to open a kindle and install parts at iPad Repair Guide.

My Apple I phone will vibrate on incoming calls but my ring tone will not come on

If the switch on the side of the phone is flipped down (red showing) then it is set to silent/vibrate mode. If that isn't it, then go to your home screen and try pressing the volume up button on the side of your phone several times until it reaches the desired volume.

My iphone 3gs wont ring or vibrate

Check to see if your silent button is switched off - should be on the upper left side top corner or you're volume for your ringer is turned all the way down and finally, in your settings - check your do not disturb setting.

My iPhone incoming calls ring but do not vibrate, but all other notifications vibrate correctly.

Strange. I would try resetting your iPhone. Hold down the home and power buttons until it powers off. It should start up automatically but if not just press the power button. This has worked for me in the past when my iPhone has acted strangely.
Don't worry about a reset or hard reboot. You won't lose any data or settings.

Iphone 4 will not ring only vibrate

The only way to change an iphone from silent to ringing is a physical switch on the left side of the phone. When you see red/orange next to this switch it means the phone is on vibrate. If it is just silver it means the phone is suppose to ring.
If the switch is set to ringing, and it still wont ring, try going into the "Settings" app and checking out the volume settings. So get to these, go to "Sounds" within the "Settings" app. The ringer's volume is displayed there, as well as whether it vibrates, and what tone is used. Make sure the volume is high enough to hear and that everything looks correct.
If your iphone still wont ring, I suggest restarting the phone. To do this, press down the button on the top right side of the phone until it says "slide to power off". Let it sit about 15 seconds after it shuts down, and then press the same top right button to start it up again.

make sure the ring/silent switch is not showing an orange dot... it's right above the volume buttons. try to play music see if there is water damage (any pink/red in the charging port or in the headphone jack restore the iPhone in iTunes if that doesn't work you've got a hardware issue

How do I turn myapple iphone 3gs onto silent

simply press the button next to volume control. When you pressed the button you will see red dot. that's mean your phone goes to silience.

Other option is: Go to setting, scroll down choose sounds, and touch Vibrate and ring..

The iPhone does not ring, only vibrates

There's a switch on the left side at the top of the iphone that turns the ringer on and off. Make sure this is towards the front of the phone to enable the ringer
