Question about Maytag Dryers

Open Question

I have a Maytag Performa PYE2300AYW and I'm experiencing a very strange problem. One day my door switch just stopped working. The dryer continued to run even when the door was open. Since it still dried I just ignored it for several months. One day it started overheating after running for just a few minutes. I switched it to air fluff so the heating element wouldn't come on and it ran through the entire cycle. The strange thing I noticed is that the door switch was working again. After opening the dryer up, cleaning it out (it wasn't very dirty) and putting it back together, I noticed the door switch didn't work anymore. I switched the heat back on and it heated and dried just fine. Now it goes through ''moods'' but I've noticed that the door switch and the overheating are correlated. Whenever the door switch works, the dryer will overheat. Whenever the door switch doesn't work, the dryer doesn't overheat. Any ideas about what's wrong?

SOURCE: whirlpool dryer won't run

you may have a broken centrifugal switch in the motor because this switch activates the motor and the heater as well. supposed to be if the motor does not run , the heater should not heat in order not to create fire but you said that even the motor is not running, the heater is still heating, then there could be a problem with the motor centrifugal switch that is connected to this interlock switch that should trigger the heater.

SOURCE: WILL NOT START. LIGHT ON BUT WILL NOT START

Check the thermal fuse, located on the right side of the heater housing. If bad order LA1053 kit.
Fair warning it's a real patience tester to install correctly

SOURCE: my maytag dryer heating element gets hot but motor will not run

Sounds like you have something shorted out.

The element issue could be a contact fused shut.
With both problems I would be looking for wires melted together, or a relay/sequencer welded shut melted etc.

You do have a potential fire hazzard here. If after removing the panel you cannot locate the problem, do not run the unit.

Here is the link to the owners manual. This feature is not mentioned. Look at the molding in the metal case of the front of the dryer. See if there are identical moldings for the door and latch on both sides. If not, no. Only alternative is to get longer connection hoses and swap washer with dryer left to right.

WHY MY MAYTAG DRYER PYE2300AYW WON'T START

Test the thermal fuse on the side of the heater housing. It should read closed for continuity. If open, you will need to replace the kit. Here is a link to the kit you need.

I have a Maytag Performa model #PYE2300AYW dryer. The issue I'm having is the dryer stopping all together midway through the drying cycle. You can get it to start back up by pushing down on the selector...

Yes, you can have a few different issues going on with your dryer and it may be hard to pin down. 1. You may have a intermittent door switch. I've seen this many times. 2. You may also have a motor that is tripping it's overload. 3. You also may have a timer issue. This may be difficult to fix on your own so you may want to call a pro. If it was me, I'd check the door switch or replace it. If it's not that, you may want to consider a new dryer due to the high repair cost. Hope this helps,

Dryer stopped running with 30 minutes left and will not restart. Maytag Performa PYE2300AYW

Reset the circuit breaker for the dryer. Allow the motor to cool, It has over temperature protection that will shut down the motor.

The belt that turns the drum may have broken. I am not sure about this model, but most dryers have a limit switch on the base of the dryer next to the motor that shuts down the dryer when the belt brakes.

I have a maytag performa electric dryer that's giving out no heat. model# pye2300ayw. what do I do?

could be three things. 1st) 240v should enter the unit. if 120v is missing then the unit will run but will not heat (on an electric dryer).
2nd) the thermal cut-off is not showing continuity and therefore not allowing voltage to travel to the element. 3rd) could be the element itself not showing continuity.

My maytag performa pye2300ayw dryer will start but will not heat up. No matter how long I leave it on, it just won't heat up. what could be the source of the problem? the model number - pye2300ayw rev - 10...

You have a thermal overload switch that may be bad. It is located under the top of the dryer. Check first the breakers. Turn them off and then back on, then check the wiring in the back of the dryer and then the element itself. It may take 30 minutes to do all of this, but it will save you a lot in the long run.

Pye2300ayw Dryer will not start. I think it is a bad door switch. How can a confirm this?

Change your thermal fuse first. when thermal fuse goes bad either the whole dryer won't run or the heat element won't come on. Check out item # 3344 at www.repairclinic.com/Appliance-Parts?s=t-pye2300ayw-%3d%3d&z=100 If your thermal fuse is bad there will be no continuity through it.

Dryer does not start - Thermal Fuse is ok.

Good to know, when the appliance does not start at all is always thermal fuse, wiring, door lock switch, or rarely the control assembly.

Have a nice day.

Maytag PYE2300AYW starts when I hold the button in, but will not stay started.

The motor will need to be replaced. There is a throw-out switch on the motor that keeps it running after you release the start button. These are generally easy to change, with the only hard part being taking the cover off and putting it back on. http://www.partstore.com/GetModel.aspx?MfgName=Maytag&BrandName=Maytag&ModelNumber=PYE2300ayw&PartCategoryName=&Keywords=motor Any of these motors listed will fit your unit.
