Kindly follow the steps before installing the new Hard drive.
1. Back up all data in the previous hard drive.
2. Make sure you have an OS system disk with you so that you can install the OS in to the new hard drive.
3. Remove the older hard drive. Place the new hard drive in its place.
4. Press F2. The BIOS menu will open up.
5. Select CD/ DVD as the first boot device.
6. Place the CD in the drive and turn off the laptop and turn it on. The system will boot the OS from the CD and install the OS in the new hard drive. The progress will be menu driven so need not worry about any settings later.
7. It might ask you to format the hard drive once again and the proceed with the installation. That must not be an issue. You may proceed with the same.
8. Once the OS is installed it will ask for username settings and date and time and language settings.

This will keep you laptop ready to use but you need to upgarde the drivers.

Visit the manufacturer's website and upgrade the drivers.

I can understand that a 10 GB HDD will not be sufficient to install any programs but woul;d recommend to use the same and use an external hard drive and uninstall the programs which you feel you may not use and back up the software in the external hard drive.

Kindly note that there is no way to transfer OS from the older hard drive to the newer hard drive.

I would recommend a portable one if you need to carry data anywhere around. But if you are not going to carry data around then you can go for a one which has a power cable.

I would prefer you choose Western Digital (WD)

WD Passport elite - 320 GB -Portable

WD My notebook Essential Edition - 500 GB or 1 TB- USB connect and can be connected whenever you desire but comes with a power cable to drive the external HDD. Hence not portable.

If not this one then I would prefer you to go for Seagate as the next option.

    Hope this helps :)

How to wipe clean CF-19 hard drive

If the Panasonic Toughbook CF19 has a Hard Disk Drive,
then you should be trying to wipe it by booting from an
external USB Optical (cdrom) drive.
You have to enter the BIOS by pressing the F2 function key,
and set USB CDROM as the first bootable device.
Then save and exit the bios.
The external optical (cdrom) will now boot
with the proper bootable media.
If you have a HIREN bootable CD then one of the
tools will allow you to WIPE and RE-FORMAT the
internal hard disk drive.
Good Luck.

Sata drivers xp

For any Panasonic Toughbook built after the year 2005,
if the Toughbook uses a SATA hard drive instead of an
IDE hard drive, then you will need to use Windows XP SP3
(Service Pack 3) instead of XP SP2 (Service Pack 2).

The XP installation CD for SP3 automatically includes
SATA drivers and you do not need any extra drivers.

That is it. Good Luck and Best Regards from:

Swapped out hdd cf-52 nothing happening

When you swapped out the Hard Disk Drive
of the Panasonic Toughbook CF52 it is very
importatnt that you did not "hot" swap the HDD
but that you turned off the unit with a full shutdown
and unplugged it as well.

Once you removed the Hard Disk Drive (HDD)
I am assuming that you replaced the drive with
another drive that had a proper operating system
already installed. If not, then of course nothing
happened since you replaced the HDD with a blank
or unformatted HDD.

One way to verify if the replacement Hard Drive
is recognized by the Toughbook is to go into
the BIOS by pressing the F2 function key and
checking the size or capacity of the replacement
Hard Disk Drive. If it shows the proper value,
then the HDD is recognized at the Hardware Level.

If it shows HDD as None or Zero then the replacement
HDD is NOT recognized and you have to try a different
drive which is functional.

Good Luck!

Windows xp installion does not see my hard drive on Panasonic CF-74

Just a thought but are you using XP Pro SP2 or SP3?

In my experience, only XP Service Pack 3 will see your
Hard Disk Drive, not XP Service Pack 2.

Good Luck!

Panasonic Toughbook won't load Windows XP CD

You can check to see if the hard drive is dislodged, but other than that I don't know what to tell you. If you know the drive is functioning correctly then your motherboard is probably dead.

I have a panasonic cf-51 with 40-gig drive. I want to upgrade the drive with something at least 160 gig. Do you have any drives available? What spec should I be looking for?

Basically, any EIDE interface hard drive will work, if you buy a new drive, just make sure to use the included software to boot the laptop up with in order to initialize the new disc and make it useable on your system.

Cf-18 toughbook

The BIOS may not support the larger drive at all; I suggest you look for a Toughbook forum and repost there and check Panasonic's site for a manual download and possibly a BIOS upgrade if the unit is equipped with a flash BIOS.
