Question about Acer Aspire One Netbook 8.9" Notebook

1 Answer

Nothing happens Computer power on led comes on cap, numlock, fan is on. nothing on screen not even bios. Have seen many reports of similar model doing exactly the same. Acer support only wants to go thru basic troubleshooting over and over again.

I am not sure where you are in trouble shooting or if your machine is posting but maybe try an external monitor to check your lcd display and inverter. seth

If you still have warranty on it, I would send it in for repair. If that's not an option for you, could you tell us if there's any kind of beep pattern?

In this situation I would normally suggest checking to make sure that the memory is seated properly. However on this netbook (I'm writing this from an Acer Aspire One right now) it would require taking it almost completely apart, as the memory resides on the bottom of the motherboard (nice design there, Acer! :-/ ).

If the cooling fan comes on and nothing else happens, it could be a GPU issue and be in need of reballing due to overheating.

If it cannot finish POST then you have a mother board problem.
You state you reset the BIOS. Can you get to the BIOS menu? If you can then the problem is not motherboard errors but hard drive boot sector problems, depending on OS used.
If the BIOS has been updated, then it is possibly an incorrect version or corrupt.
If you can reflow the soldering, remove the BIOS chip and fit a known good one. That should fix your problem.
Hope this helps.

While the power is off at the wall. remove the BIOS battery for about a min, then reinstall in the correct orientation. Power on at the wall socket and turn on. Was the board working before you flashed the BIOS?
It is possible that the BIOS is now currupt and therefore doesn't work go to www.badflash.com for more information.
They may be able to replace your BIOS chip.

Your timeous rating of this solution is much apperciated.
Thanks

Try getting to the bios screen, if you can get to the bios screen then I would imagine the hard drive has failed. If it is hanging up at the toshiba splash screen and not allowing BIOS access, then I would lean toward a motherboard failure. Are you attempting a boot from the windows disc?, is that why you are trying F12? I have seen my share of these Toshiba M35's just give the Toshiba splash screen when there has been a motherboard issue. Changing out the main board will fix this particular problem. I had not found another solution for it.

When I hit power button on computer, power light doesn't come on...and the fan kicks on, but nothing else happens. nothing shows up on monitor except the test screen with 3 colors...the computer doesn't...

THis sounds like a power supply issue.. I had a similar issue with mine. my fan would kick on for about 2 seconds then shut off.
Hope that helps
