Question about Sony Playstation 3 (PS3) Console
My PS3 is telling me that it "succeeded" in obtaining my IP adress, but now its telling me that an error occured during communication with the server. This is a DNS error.(80710102).what is the problem?
My ps3 is telling me that it obtained the ip:adress but failed to connect to the internet, dns error. i also have a router linksys wrt54g, wireless connection
OK IF YOU HAVE PS3, and you get the ERROR DNS while trying to login into PSN, all u need to do is, shutdown the console, then restart it by holding down the ON button on the PS# not the controller till you hear 2 beeps, then try to login again, should work.

I had the same problem but rectified it like this ( windows XP):
open Control Panel and click on Networks Connections. Then click on your internet service provider connection. In 'general' click on 'properties' and then go to 'Advanced'. On the 'Internet connection sharing' tick 'Allow other network users to connect through this internet connection. In the same box click on 'settings' and tick 'DNS'.
I hope this helps.

Ok i had this problem and this is how i resolved it...
First check wether or not your router has a sercurity enabled wep password, if so turn it off (which is what i did) or make sure you are putting te correct password/ passphrase into the ps3 wep setup stage... this way you dont have to manually enter the ip, which saves mistakes, after you have disabled the security in the router run the internet connection settings and go through all the options making sure to select "no wep" then continue and at the end and the connection to the internet should be successfull .

If you have tried all the other Wireless networking related troubeshooting suggested, then the issue is really 'cos your firmware needs an upgrade, especially if your PS3 wireless connection was working earlier and suddenly stopped i.e you are getting an IP from your router but internet connection is not going thru.
What you need to do is either hardwire your PS3 (instead of wireless) and download the update (it shall download inspite of no connection) or download the update patch from playstation.com and save it a folder ps3\update\ and use that to upgrade the firmware.
It shall work!!

Ok...had this problem with my Xbox360 when it first came out, and recently with my PS3. Wired, Wireless it's all the same. Resetting your Ps3 or router is good, fine, and dandy. You MUST however re-establish your internet connection using a CPU! Your router will connect to the internet and fix itself. Then you will be able to re-connect to your PS3 or Xbox360. Make sure you completly disconnect your gaming device from your router and re-establish a connection using only your laptop or desktop before connecting back to your system... If it still doesn't work your $h1t just broke!!!

I had this exact same problem. I fixed it by disabling the upnp feature on both the ps3 and my linksys wrt54g router.

Hello. i fixed this problem by realizing that the default gateway i entered in from my ipconfig from my pc was wrong. the router told me a different default gateway and i entered thaat in instead. i have upnp disabled on router and ps3 and dmz enabled to my ps3. i use a tplink router. this took me a day to figure out but i am well chuffed

Okay, I was just in the exact same boat as you guys... my solution was as simple as going through the connection manually, setting it up as a PPPOE connection (manually input your ISP user name, and password on next page). This may help some of you out. Hope it does, anyways.

Go and ring your network provider

Just restarting the ps3 by pressing the "on/off" button until it turns off then restarting it helped for me. Maybe I was lucky, but try it first since you might too.

Hi, i had the same problem but it was fixed by simply re directing my ISP's DNS settings away from Sony's. manually change your DNS settings to the ones below and it should work fine !

Please shut down power to your router, modem, and PS3.
Then restart them in the order of :
Modem, Router, PS3.
Please leave them unpowered for several minutes.
This could be the source of your problem, and resetting is the first step to fixing!
