Nuvi 350 blown speaker

Hi, my Garmin 350 speaker has gone dead. When I tap it, it comes back on all distorted and scratchy and then dies out again. The audio is ok when I use the headphone jack. Does anyone know how to replace the speaker?

I also have a second Nuvi 350 unit, but with US maps. Is there a way to transfer my Europe maps on to that unit and use that instead?

I just encountered the same problem. The unit has NOT been near water, extreme conditions etc. ... it worked fine ALL DAY and on my way home the speaker started dying. I'm DEAD w/o a speaker & voice!!!

I have owned two Garmin Nuvi 350 GPS's (since 9-06)...The first one had a software issue and was exchanged after one month. The second one worked fine until (6-07) when the speakers went out. There hasn't been any water exposure, misuse or damage. I am disappointed to say the least with my Garmin. Perhaps there's someone else who had this same issue and repaired it....In return, kindly directing me on how I can do the same...

I have the same problem. I bought the unit in August 2007 and the speaker died about 2 weeks ago. Every so often it will spit out a couple of words and then go silent again. The audio still works with headphones, but that's pretty inconvenient. Pretty disappointing....

I have 2 Nuvi 680 devices and on Nuvi 760 device. I replace at least one of them every couple of months.

The issue is the headphone jack itself, which is a surface mount component and not mechanically fastened to the device in any way. So, as the solder -- the only thing holding it in place -- fails, the device audio fails.

I've probably been through the RMA process 6 times in two years. They fail almost on schedule every 3 months. It's just poor quality. The Nuvi needs to have a chassis mounted jack, not a surface mount component, and this problem would go away forever.

When you tap the GPS it is probably doing one of two things:

1. The tapping is temporarily reconnecting the broken voice coil in the speaker (speaker will need to be replaced)

2. The tapping is temporarily reconnecting a bad solder joint from the GPS motherboard to the speaker. (The solder joint will need to be resoldered)

You can either send the unit back for repair or purchase a FM modulator and retrieve the audio through your FM car stereo.

You can purchase an external FM modulator like those used on IPODS and CD players. I am using one on my Nuvi 350 and it works well. Just plug it into the headphone jack. Advice: Be sure to buy one that is crystal (PLL) controlled and NOT using a tuning dial. The FM modulators that use a tuning dial often tend to drift and they will also change frequency when you hit a bump in the road.
If you decide to send it back for repair, be sure to have your serial number handy. Register it online
if you haven't already done so.

My Nuvi 350 speaker died after 2 days use so I returned it to the store and got a new one. It has been two days and this one is going bad as well. : - ( I contacted Garmin and they said I could return it to them but I think I will try and get my money back at the store and buy a 660 with the FM transmitter.

Speaker does not work on the nuvi 600 garmin fps

Please see this link for troubleshooting info. Too much info to type here. This is a common problem. Mostly caused by a blown speaker, bad headphone jack or wrong setting. From experience, its usually caused by a blown voice coil in the speaker.

I am hard of hearing. Which GPS brand seems to have the best quality speakers? I would like it to be both load and distortion free.

I have the garmin 250W and the sound is excellent. I have to turn it down to 50% volume because I find it is too loud even for me.

Garmins Nuvi 350 - voice interactive lost

I have the same problem with my Nuvi 350. It's only about 2 months old and the sound went. I turned it on the other day to use it and the sound did not sound right, it sounded like the speaker was blown. I turned it off and turned it back on and that was it, the sound was gone. I did everything possible and can't get the sound to come back. I called Garmin and now I have to send it in for repair. I looked around the web and noticed that Garmins have big issues with the sound going on the units. I hope they fix that issue.

Sorry to say the LCD display is cracked. You can find a replacement LCD display with tools on eBay but they are kind of pricey.

You might try finding one for sale that has an antenna problem or is completely that had a known working display at the time it died.

If you send it back to Garmin, it will cost you almost the same as a new one if your unit is out of warranty.

Good luck!
