Question about Dell UltraSharp 1800FP 18.1" LCD Flat Panel Monitor

1 Answer

When I start my computer my Dell S199WFP Flat Panel Monitor does not go on and stay on. It comes on for about two seconds or and switches off. I have to turn it on about 20-30 before it will stay on. While doing this, the two or three seconds when the screen appears, the image is not fully lite. Once it "takes" the image flutter from light to bright and is okay until I turn it off/on again. Can you help me solve this problem?

Hello

You have capacitors on the monitors power supply that have changed value. Soon they will keep the monitor from turning on at all. Send it to a company like mine or take it to a local repair person.

Just reporting that my dell S199WFP lcd is doing the same thing. Dell seems to cheap out when it comes to quality capacitors. Something similar happened at my work where we were having to return 1 out of 10 machines due to faulty capacitors on the motherboards.

What do you mean your screen goes black. It is black to start isn't it? Does it come on at all?
If you meam you are getting a display, but it goes off, you need to check the power settings for your monitor, that are set by your PC. Click start, then control panel, then double click display. Then in the Dispay Properties window, click the Screensaver tab at the top middle. In the lower half of the page which opens, you can find power settings, and the rest is self explanatory. If this is not the answer to your problem, you need to give more detailed information.
One check you can do is to disconnect the signal cable from your monitor, and switch power on, and see what is displayed. You may well need a new monitor, but before running off to buy one, try to borrow one to connect to your pc, and also if possible, try to connect your monitor to another pc, or to a notebook/laptop.

The monitor comes on and then goes black.

Sounds like your LCD panel lamps are shutting down, this could be either due bad tubes, or more likely lamp driver power supply is faulty.

Dell monitor will come on but will not stay on. stays on 5sec

5 seconds? Hmm, too long for inverter driver turning into protection caused by bad lamps. Also too long for PWM controller in the switching power supply.
Rather looks like overheating of the FETs in the inverter, they are driving HV-transformers. Open the monitor, remove metal lid and observe inverter board. If PCB under and around these FETs is darkened, replace them.
These Dells hard to open. Take the foot off and unscrew plastic cover. Then using flat screwdriver with wide blade separate plastic halves of the case, starting from bottom edge and moving to opposite. It might be sweaty.

Hp flat panel monitor comes on shows logon and then blank screen

Ok, another words, monitor powers up for few seconds and shuts down by itself. If green LED on the front panel turns off as well or stays on?
If stays on, then inverter turns into protection mode because of old backlight lamps.
If it turns off in same time with an image on the screen, then there are some bad electrolytic capacitors in the power supply.

My monitor screen goes black

The monitor is going bad. Either going to be a bad screen or a bad inverter. Also Since you tried it on another computer and its still giving you the same symptoms, you know the computers are fine. To be sure, try another monitor on your computer and if you get video on the new monitor then thats another way of verifying that the dell monitor is bad.
