Question about Car Audio & Video

3 Answers

I have a 1994 Camaro with a locktronic theft security system, according to the sticker on the side window. This system was unknown to us until today, when I had to replace the car's battery. When I hooked up the new battery, the security system audible alarm started sounding (on and off for about 30 seconds at a time)and the ignition is disabled. We have no way to turn off the system as no remote or other device came with this used car. How can we turn off the system, stop the audible alarm, and start the car?

There is no system serial number on the window sticker, and the "800" number for Loctronics on the window sticker is now not theirs...they may be out of business. I pulled all fuses and relays for the car, alarm still sounds and ignition is still disabled. Any other ideas? Thanks

Thanks for the suggestions. We resolved the problem thru the knowledge of the guy AAA sent out when we decided to have the vehicle towed to an auto alarm shop to rewire the loctronic anti-theft system around the starter "kill" system. He inserted the ignition key and turned it to the full "on" position, then reconnected the auto battery (which I had disconnected to keep he alarm from going off.) This simple procedure tricked the loctronic system into disabling itself, and the car now starts normally. The anti-theft system now doesn't work, but it never did anyway, as we never realized it was still a functioning system until I happened to replace the car's battery;and the car is 15 years old, not a likely target anyway

This vehicle has the original "VATS" key based
engine disabling system, and from the description,
it appears you've reset the "VATS" after the cars battery was replaced

The car does not recognise the chip in the ignition
key when that happens. When removing the power,
you inadvertently wiped the memory as well.

You can try this:
Put the key in the ignition, turn to the on position and wait at
least 10 mins and that
may work...Your ignition switch VATS reader assembly may be to blame....In some cases, the VATS or (VEHICLE ANTI THEFT SYSTEM)
will re-learn the code this way, and will then
allow the restart all the time. But if this does not work,
then go to any GM vehicle dealer to have the service department
evaluate the issue and get it re-coded

Good luck I hope method 1 does the trick!

You can do a permanant bypass on this system.
see the PLJX bypass kit at www.PASSLOCK2.com

Your ignition key has a pellet embedded on it (it's just a resistor, not a microchip) which makes contact with two contacts inside the ignition switch... Here is a link to an article describing how to bypass the lock and key altogether, as long as you don't mind cutting some wires.

Look for the serial number of the alarm system on the sticker, then call the manufacturer and they will give you the instruction on how to disable the alarm system.

The reason why you need the serial number, because some alarm system has a unique code that you need to use before disabling it.

If you now have a security light on, chances are the radio anti theft system could be also part of the ignition theft system and has demobilized car.

1993 camaro no secrty light wont crank

Most all mechanics pull the dome light fuse before working in the interior to avoid draining the battery.. On the 1994-95 Camaro the 20 Amp fuse courtesy light, also illuminates the orange security light in the dash cluster. If the security light is out, and your car won't start, it's because the VATS is in theft mode and you don't see it. Clean the key, if that don't work you may have an open short or broken wire in the orange jacket of the ignition (key) switch. Disconnect the harness connector and connect a matching resistor with the correct ohms of your key inline with the purple and white wires without cutting the connectors off, because you may latter need them. - Original Owner of 1995 Camaro.

Take your vehicle registration into a Chev dealership and they will cut a key for you, cost probably about $12.00. Almost impossible to disable any security.

I HAVE A 94 CAMARO I TURN THE KEY AND THERES NOTHING BUT LIGHTS DOES NOT TURN OVER BUT SECURITY LIGHT STAYS ON FOR 3 MINUTES OR MORE THEN GOES OUT

check pass key circuit in steering column for open. a easy test is to install key with pellet, and check resistance value at the end of harness. this harness will have a bright orange color. may need to disasm C100 to access terminals.(large connector under dash by steering column). the value of the key should be close to the value at end of wires. if values are not close,(IE: OL or infinity) then replace ignition lock cylinder AND key. you will need to take original key when purchasing new one due to the special resistance value the key contains.(1 thru 15 different values!)
what happens is the lock cylinder has small wires that move everytime you turn the key,and eventually break causing theft system to "think" a theft attemt has occured, and disables crank or fuel delivery systems.

1994 camaro turn key nothing happens.haspower to lights ext

Hi, the problem may be the interlock or the security system. Is the security light staying on? You can isolate the problem by pulling out the theft deterrent relay and interrogating the relay socket, but I'm not sure where this relay is on your car. If you don't have a theft deterrent system, the problem is likely the interlock. I think your interlock switch is on the shifter under the console. I have pasted a pic of the switch below. To check the switch, pull up the console and remove the connector from the switch. Then use a large paper clip to connect the terminals inside the connector. Do not let the paper clip touch a ground point, and try to start the car. If this works, either adjust, repair, or replace the switch.

My car stereo system on my 1999 Honda accord has a backwards 3 on it and will not play or even turn on.

I bought a used 1999 Honda Accord and found the radio code on stickers on the underside of the coin tray (near A/C vent by drivers door) and also under the lid of the fuse box under the hood.

power locks check fuse and relay.take car to dearlership.they have to check your theft deterrent module.when its in security mode.your problem could be it cant read the chip on ignition keys or the theft deterrent module is failing.not a home fix.
