The air ride compressor comes on too often

It could be your compressor. You can check this by popping it out and putting a 12 volt source on it.

Here's an idea to get you started.
Put the back end of the car up on ramps so you can crawl underneath it.
With the front tires blocked securely, have a helper get into the car and roll down the windows so they can hear you talk from under the car.
Have the parking brake set.
Take a bucket or container of soapy water and a brush, and / or a spray bottle of soapy water, and crawl under to car.
Have the helper start the car, and look and listen for leaks.
I have heard the air bags leak on air ride cars after a few years. The soapy water should show a leak when applied to the air bags and the air lines.

I know that you are trying to fix that air ride, but i put these replacement springs on my 93 towncar. Fixed the compressor problem (eliminated it) and cost a whole lot less. The install is kinda hard if you've never dropped a rear end before. Need a good tool set, a couple jacks, and jack stands to get it done. Check it out. Even having a mechanic install them would be cheaper than replacing a compressor.

If it is not lifting and the compressor is running, you have a leak in a hose, or a blown air spring, possibly an open solenoid-but try first to jack it up about 4 inches (shut off the compressor switch located in the trunk on the driver side fender)-you might have to drive the car up in some 2x4's to get extra height so you can get a jack under the car so it can be lifted-get it up so that it is off the tires, turn the compressor switch on again, and turn the key on again (or start the car)-see if it will raise now. If not, you need to look (or listen) for a blown bag or leaking hose. Do not run the compressor too much or you will replace it again-let it cool off in between attempts to locate the leak (soapy water in a spray bottle is your friend). the compressor is designed to 'time out' after about 90 seconds, so if it shuts off, let it rest, look around, and try again in 10 minutes after you have looked at the bags and lines (especially make sure they are pushed into the various locations. And, there are always spring conversions-once you do it, you never have to worry about the bags again. Air ride is nice but after 8 years, bags need replacing, and a system that is leaking ends up taking out other things like compressors, the hard to find relays, the dryer, solenoids at the bags, air ride modules, hoses...a decent spring conversion costs about $450, you can find used ones on ebay for as little as $200, and are not too hard to install with good tools and maybe a good helper.

To begin with, check the "ride level" fuse and make sure that the ride level compressor does work, and you should be able to hear that the ride level compressor is working when the ride level system is leveling the vehicle.

The ride level system uses an air compressor and either an air type of shocks or a type of air billow to raise and lower the vehicle, there is an adjustment to set the ride height and it is located under the vehicle and there is a control lever or rod that should be connected between the rear axle and a switch that is mounted on the body of the vehicle, and there will be an adjustment slot in the control lever between the switch and the body, and that is how you would adjust the ride level height, but be sure that the vehicle can not drop any further down if someone is under the vehicle trying to adjust the ride height.

However, you might find that the control lever to the ride level has fallen off from the switch on the body or it has come loose from the rear axle, and it is just hanging there not operating the switch on the body that controls the the ride level compressor, or there might be a blown out air shock or billow, or you might find that an air line from the compressor is leaking and the ride level compressor will just run continuously until it blows out the fuse, and if that is the case you might also find out that the air compressor has burned out from running continuously.

sounds like a ride controll compressor if your car has air ride controll it will have a compressor
check the fan for bad blades and chips also check the fan housing for missing hold downs and screws also for clearences and if loose or out of mounts

Spray some soapy water with a spray bottle on the asi struts and check for leaks first.

Remove battery, remove windshield washer bottle, remove air compressor and disconnect both air lines from the compressor dryer. Make sure compressor electrical wiring is plugged in, install battery, turn suspension switch to ON, turn ignition switch to the ON position, close all door and the compressor should come on and completely lower the whole truck. Once the truck is completely down, turn the ignition OFF, remove battery and connect both air lines. Install battery ensure electrical wiring is plugged in, turn ignition switch to ON, the compressor should come on and raise the vehicle to the correct ride height.

From the sounds of it, it's simply your air ride's compressor. If you're not aware that your vehicle has air ride suspension, read up on the user's manual or look on the web. When you start your vehicle and shift into drive or reverse, your compressor should start (assuming no doors are ajar). The compressor than fills all four airbags in your vehicle to a factory-set height. These airbags provide a softer ride than the conventional shock/strut system seen in less expensive SUV's and trucks but are also more prone to problems and damage down the line. You can isolate the compressor as the sound by going to your truck, removing the left hand side panel and switching your air ride off. Your car's compressor then should not kick in at all. However, you should not operate your vehicle with this switch turned off. You should only use it as a diagnostic reference or anytime your car is towed, hoisted, or jacked up. Hope this helps.

I had the same problem with my 95 continental. what I did was ordered a conversion kit and replaced all air suspension with aftermarket strut and springs ...kit costed me $500 and I did the work...car rides at level hight all the time now
