The charger you purchased - is it new or used? Are you positive the charger is working? I would see if you can obtain another charger that you know is good and connect. There are universal chargers that you can buy locally for a low price. Also double check to make sure you have a good battery. laptop batteries usually last 1-2 years.

IBM ThinkPad T40: the problem is the following Modem HSP56 MR( Intel) doesnot work, Other devices:Nework Controller and unknown device doesn't work

Windows is missing the "device-drivers" for your network adapter and your modem.

On a different computer, access IBM's ThinkPad web-site, and download those device-drivers for your T40. Copy the device-drivers to either a CD-writable or to a USB memory-stick.

Move the media to your T40, and install from that removable media.

Hello, I have an IBM ThinkPad t40 and my battery will not charge. It runs on AC power but shuts off as soon as AC is removed.

You should replace the battery. I wish I had a better answer, but that's pretty straight forward.

T40 won't boot, just a blinking light. someone said mother board. someone said a little soldering job

Use a volt meter to check the battery. Most are relient on the battery for short bursts of power and to maintain the voltage. Make sure the power is comming from the charger also. Chargers go bad also. If the voltages are ok remove the battery and charger for 10 minuets for a cool down and try powering up again.

Will not boot... black screen?

Try removing the battery completely and powering it up on AC power. Sometimes a dead battery (even if you're plugged in to AC) will stall a boot-up in its tracks. If this doesn't help, please reply back and let me know if anything changed.

When i switch on the my thinkpad it starts to boot up then the screen goes blank the battery light goes orange and and flashes and it makes a cranking noise.

Is the Battery making the cranking noise? If so the battery is telling you the battery is dying. I have a IBM ThinkPad 380Z and when on the charger it makes a beeeeep noise and goes off and on for almost the entire day and then stops and keeps a solid orange battery light on.
Try booting without battery
