Question about GPX HM3817DT Shelf System

1 Answer

The sound only comes out of the right speaker. Is there a way to adjust the balance of the speakers, or is it just a bad wire?

I don't believe there is. I think it's hard wired to be balanced in the middle. BUT, I saw a display model at the store that had the same problem.

Let's try the simple ideas first. Turn the unit around and twist and push the plug up in place to make sure it's firmly connected. Might even try unplugging it, then plugging it back in again.

If that doesn't fix it, try running your fingertips slowly over the cord (lightly grasping the cord between thumb and forefinger) and see if there are any damaged places on the cord. This could be caused by shipping damage or manufacturing damage, or even your furry kids. *giggle*

If those ideas don't produce any results, then there's most likely a broken wire in the cord that leads from the speaker to the unit. Try carefully bending the cord back and forth in U shapes and see if the sound appears then disappears. If so, then you have a broken wire. Of course even if the sound doesn't go in and out, that doesn't mean you DON'T have a broken wire... it just might be at one end or other of the cord making it harder to isolate.

If you have a broken wire, you can take it to a local electronics shop and they should be able to fix it easily and, hopefully, fairly cheaply.

Hope that helps. =)

Are you sure you wired up the head unit correctly? It is fairly uncommon for a audio output amplifier to blow out leaving 3 working speakers and 1 not working. So more than likely it is bad wiring or a blown speaker. Best bet would be get a digital multimeter and ohm out the speaker and see if it has continuity and is the same as the adjacent speaker. You could also try swapping the left/right channel wiring and see if the front right speaker stops working when connected to the left speaker output or vice versa.

Very little sound coming from the speakers

follow this steps and fix it. God bless you

One of the speaker inputs is not connected. Connect the speaker wiring securely. The BALANCE setting is all the way in one direction. Adjust the BALANCE control. Unit is in MONO mode. Turn off MONO mode.

The sound only comes from the right side on my acer tablet

See if there's a balance control. If the slider is all the way to the right, that could explain the problem. Otherwise, since this happens with two sets of speakers, the problem is either a bad receptacle, or sound card, or, the connection between them.

I found this Windows 7 site on how to adjust the balance.. it seems to be legit: no complaints from Avast! A/V

Hello! Whether your vehicle is premium or standard the wiring is almost the same...Both have a Left front Speaker and a Left Front Tweeter...You did not specify which speaker (Left Front ) wasn't working; However it really doesn't matter...Either the speaker is blown or the wiring has a poor connection or is broken (open)...Here are the wire colors...LF Door=Tan (+) and Gray (-)...
LF Tweeter=Tan (+) and Yellow (-)...The Yellow and Gray are tied together...Pop the speakers out using a thin blade screwdriver with the end taped...Visually inspect...If you have an ohm meter read across each speaker if good=2-8 ohms...If bad =open or 0 ohms...Guru...Saailer

Did it fail while you had vehicle, or like this when you bought it? Could be bad radio or wiring harness was chopped up when previous owners had an aftermarket radio installed. They probably just slapped the OEM radio back in when selling car. And didn't put all the OEM wiring back in.

MY JBL Platinum Series speakers work on one side

the first thing to establish whether its the speakers would be to try them on a different computer. If there is some sound, that means its getting some feedback. Maybe you could go to sound manager in your control panel, or on the volume menu that you can access by clicking the volume icon on your desktop taskbar, you know, by the time and stuff. Once there, adjust the balance by moving the slider all the way to either side to see if its unbalanced. You might also wanna adjust the sound scheme from mono to stereo or dolby digital which would be in the same menu/ window. Does the right speaker thats plugged into the tower have a balance (R)ight and (L)eft? you might also want to adjust that to either side. If that is not helping, maybe there is a hardware issue with the left speaker, maybe a short, or a problem with the wire and you might have to replace that speaker if you do not know how to fix speakers. Tell me how everything works out.
